It depends on our own financial situation. The first year we gave half the weekly charge - $105. This past year we could only afford $75 around the holidays with baby #2 on the way.
Yeah, I heard the one week's pay thing, too. But in relation to in-home or nanny's, where there is only one provider. Not sure how that applies to centers where multiple teachers work a room...
Another related question, if the center is closed the week of Christmas, but you have to pay for it anyway, do you still give one week's pay? Or perhaps gift cards?
We normally give gift cards to Giant or Target. We do not give the full weeks payment since it is $400/week. Just can't afford that. Major providers (since it is a center) get $50-$75, minor providers get $25-50. I know we should give more, but it is difficult to afford. Last Christmas we gave to her 3 toddler providers and her 2 infant providers since she split the year in two rooms. This year we will only give to 2 two-year-old teachers. We do not give anything to the directors.
