Enough with the Abbreviations!

Anybody else tired of seeing DH, DD, DS, NBR, MP (I could go on) all over the posts?

When did it take up so much more time to type "daughter", "son", "husband"?  I don't even know what the heck the abbreviations mean half the time!  I feel like I'm reading in a secret code...only I don't have the key to the code!

 OK...vent over.

Maybe that's because you only have 35 posts.  If you hang around long enough you'd notice that it's much easier to use abbreviations for things that are typed a lot.

  • Its the internet. Thats sorta how message boards work. I personally didn't know anything about all the abreviations before joining this board but it hasn't been too hard to figure out. Sorta just rolling with it. I don't see what the big deal is, I mean you can always type the whole word out yourself and use context clues or ask about stuff you don't understand.
  • I do like twatwaffle.. I could abbreviate it but we all know you wouldnt like THAT very much.
  • Nope, not tired of it. If you pay attention you should be able to figure out what they stand for and if not you could always (nicely) ask.
  • They don't bother me but I know what you are saying the the code....I never got it either :)

  • I prefer not to use the abbreviations, for me it just takes more effort to put DH rather than Husband, or DD rather than Daughter, but I have gone along with it every once in a while cause, well, I go with the crowd most of the time. Sometimes I dont understand what some of them are but the context of what they are posting about usually gives it away. But I refuse to ever use things like LOL and ROFL. ever.......ever.

  • Yes, it does save time. I use them all the time.
  • I agree with you to an extent - I think some of it is just "geting the lingo down" so that you fit in on a message board.  Some of the abbreviations are useful though (WDYT, WWYD, TIA, HTH - take much longer to write out than to abbreviate).

Like a PP (another good one) said, I will never say LOL - I just feel weird writing it, it's not natural to me.

  • I forsee in your future that if you stick around you will soon be using the abbreviations yourself.
  • Blair - I love how you always throw ewcm in there. it just doesn't get old. : )

I am so freaking pregnant right now that I laughed way too much at this post.  I have no coping skills - thanks for saying what I wanted to say! :)

  • Really? I hardly ever post on this board, yet I still find myself referring to my husband as DH outside of the internet. People are like "Wha??"

     Geeet over it. Smile

  • I had to learn what many of them mean and I still am often unsure about what some of the really long ones stand for.

I don't really like the ones such as ROFL or LMAO because I don't talk like that anyway.

But the ones that are frequently used BF (breastfeed), DH (husband), BH (Braxton Hicks), HTH (hope that helps) etc are so incredibly more convenient than typing the full phrase out constantly.
