3rd Trimester

can't sleep - going to be induced tomorrow..

I'm going in at 6am to be induced.  I am soooo nervous I just can't sleep.  However, I plan to request them to break my water first (I've been 3 cm dialated) for two weeks and I really think I might be at almost 4 now-  I'm just nervous they are going to tell me, "no sorry, we start you on Pitocin first" and I don't want that until I need it...I want to see if them breaking my water will help me labor on my own.  Is it a good idea to do this or would you go straight for the Pitocin?

  • Why are you being induced a week early?

good luck! it has to be so exciting! I am sure everything will go just fine.

  • my Doc broke my water 1st (I was at 2 1/2 when I went in) but it didnt do anything in 4 hours so they started me on pit. but it def doesnt hurt to ask imo, Good Luck

  • Might as well ask. Maybe they'll do both at the same time. If the plan is to be induced, they might not be thrilled about breaking your water and having you sit around for a few hours to see if anything happens. But, maybe they'd let you go home and come back later to see if it helped.

By the way, I'd get some sleep if you're having a baby tomorrow. Labor is exhausting. I was induced with my daughter around 3pm on a Friday and didn't sleep that night. I didn't have to push until 6:30am on Saturday. It wasn't good. I kept passing out while pushing. Sleep is something you're really going to need. You should probably even try to get some sleep after you get the Pitocin. There's no telling how long it's going to take until time to push.

  • Since the pitocin takes longer to work I can see why they want to start with that. I'm sure you can ask though!
