Infertility

AF is here...first treatment ever on it's way!!! Where to buy meds?

So after taking Provera, AF shows up today, finally, we can move on to our very first IF treatment ever...IUI with injectables (follistim and hcg). I am both excited and nervous. I am excited to finally try something besides BD to get the babymaking process started. At the same time, we are completely OOP and am afraid of making such a huge gamble, we were given a quote of about $4600 with meds. I am afraid of the shots (hate needles) and I am afraid of a BFN, I've been so optomistic up to now, but as I found AF this morning, I also found fear of being disappointed. If this IUI doesn't work, there is a high possibility that we will have to take a break while we save for IVF, which was quoted at anywhere between $14,000-$16,000, more depending on the circumstances. The problem is that I was given a diagnosis of DOR, so I don't feel as if we have the TIME to take a break and save for IVF, it is all very stressful!!!

Anyways, I am shopping around for prices on Follistim and HCG, the nurse said because we are OOP we may qualify for a program that will give us our first vial for free, but she said we'd probably need about 900 total. I was also told we probably couldn't find it at any pharmacy, does anyone have any suggestions on where I could find it in Los Angeles? My RE is at Cedars Sinai (anyone else go there) and I live in the South Bay area, so anywhere around here since I'll be getting it on Friday, or do most people buy it online? TIA

  • Also, do I have any cycle buddies?

  • I've always used a mail order pharmacy, such as Schraft's or Freedom Fertility. My RE always recommends where to order it from based on their prices. good luck!

  • I'm OOP as well and just bought my meds at www.ivfmeds.com. I ended up getting the European generic HMG for $14.50 a dose which is way less than what I can get locally. I was supposed to be on Follistim, but at $1200 vs. $400 I chose to take the bigger needle and save a big chunk of money. We'll see how it goes. :) GL!
  • I don't know about where to buy meds, but I did want to wish you the best of luck this cycle! Don't be afraid of he shots. They're really not that bad... I promise :)
