Low Fetal Heartrate?

Hi all. I am new on here. Just found out we are expecting on Sunday! Total surprise--not planned at all... we were a bit taken aback at first, but are now excited and anxious. Went to OB yesterday for 1st ultrasound. He measured me at 6 wks, 1 day (which may or may not be completely accurate). Everything looked perfect, but fetal HR was only 78. Did blip up to 82 a couple of times. I am terrified... Everything I have ready basically insinuates there is a very high risk we will miscarry :...( Does anyone have an experience (good or bad) with a lower HR in the first 6-8 wks you can share with me?

My dr didn't seem overly concerned. Said the heart could have literally developed in the past 24 hrs, and just now getting up and running. However everything I am reading is so confusing. I know at this point, I don't have much control over any of this and it's in God's hands. I am having normal preg syptoms; cravings, sore boobs, mood swings, hot all the time, uterine cramping (no spotting or bleeding!). I feel optimistic, but don't want to be naive.

We go back next Mon for a follow up to see if HR has increased... On pins and needles until then...

I am actually surprised that they even bothered to measure heartrate that early. My Dr told me that it was very unreliable so they didn't measure until closer to my 2nd trimester. If your Dr is not concerned, neither should you. Step away from Google. It is not your friend during pregnancy.

They don't usually monitor the heart rate that early. I bet it just developed. I wouldn't worry about it at all. They usually start at your 12 week apt.

I'm sorry you're worried, but it seems very early to be too concerned. We couldn't even hear the heartbeat until I was at least 8 weeks - we only saw the little blip on the u/s.

I totally am not a fan of google during pregnancy. It has made me crazy too many times to count when I should have been relaxing and enjoying pregnancy. I would just listen to your dr. and go with that...

First off back away from google and the internet. It will scary you to no end which isn't good. Secondly, if the doc isn't worried then you should either. He's totally right in that the heartbeat could have started in the last day. 6wk 1d is very early and usually the heartbeat starts right around that time. Just breath right now.

I know it's easier said than done but I really wouldn't worry just yet. The heart doesn't start beating until right at 6 weeks. Usually measurements taken that early are +/- 2 days so you could have even been right at 6 weeks exactly. For 6 weeks, 1 day, it sounds like a fine heartbeat. If your doctor wasn't concerned, I wouldn't be concerned. I had my 1st u/s at 6 w and 2 days for both my pregnancies and both times my doctor warned me that we probably wouldn't even see a heartbeat although we did. Step away from the computer. It will only freak you out, especially this early in your pregnancy. Good luck and H&H 9 months!

Ours was low the first time, too. It's hard to detect when they are that little....we did the same thing and went back a week later. Try not to worry!
