Re: *having trouble eating and gaining weight*

  • I have only gained 2 pounds so far.  Everyone is different.  It seems within range to me but I would ask your dr.

  • 7 pounds could be fine for you at 17 weeks. I am 22 weeks and have gained around 10 pounds at this point. Try to eat some things that are easy on your stomach. As you get further along hopefully your appetite will allow you to eat more.
  • I have not gained any weight yet and my doctor isnt worried.  But I am also eating very balanced, healthy meals.

I wouldnt worry about the fact that you are not gaining as much as whether or not you are getting everything you (and the baby) needs nutritionally.

  • been there, done that..at 19wks+ I am still in the negative for overall weight gain and dr doesn't seem too worried for me yet...So long as you eat something and keep something down on a regular basis like I've been able to...finally have my appetite back w/in the last 2wks but still lost 1lb since previous OB...
  • i've only gained about 12 and I'm 24 weeks
  • I am just now starting to eat a little more than 1/2 of what I did before I was pregnant.  I get full faster and am just not hungry as often.  I am still down 2lbs and my doctor said it is fine as long as I am eating ok.  I have been trying to add a few little snacks between meals for a little extra even when I am not hungry.
  • I've only gained 3 lbs so far...and I eat at every meal. Weight gain recommendations depend on the doctor. If you have trouble eating/with your appetite or are concerned about your weight gain, you should talk with your doctor.
  • 7 lbs seems (to me) right in line with normal (perhaps even on the high end). I am up about three lbs, which my doc says is right on track.

  • I do eat salads and bagels w/cream cheese a lot that seems to be what i crave but i don't get hungry and when i start to get stomach pain i know it's time to eat and i feel so bad. I've had trouble with my appitite since the begining and i've only thrown up like 5 times so it's not the fact that i get sick.
  • I actually lost about 2 lb. my first 15 / 17 wks... doc wasn't worried, I knew I was eating healthy things so no worries.
Since then I've only gained about 4 lbs. (or 2 depending o how you look at it I guess).

One of my fav. ways to get a nutritional "bang for my buck" in the am is to make a smoothie with skim milk, banana, peanut butter and a packet of chocolate no sugar added Carnation breakfast.  Or consider granola, or dried fruits throw 'em in your purse and your good to go!

  • I've gained about 6 pounds at 17 weeks and my doctor told me last week that I'm right on track.  It really is different for all women and as long as your doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be either. When you do eat, just get in as many nutrients as possible.  What helped me through that stage was eating small amounts of food all through the day (even a few almonds or a small piece of fruit) so that I would never get that so-hungry-I'm-sick feeling.

  • I'm a week behind you and I am down 11 pounds.  I am also having horrible all day sickness.  Everyone is different.
  • At my 15 week apt last week, I was back up to my starting weight. I'd lost a couple lbs during the first tri. Plus I'm still getting sick, so I know it's not going up much.

  • I'm down about 10 lbs too - but I'm a few weeks behind you. If your doctor isn't concerned then you shouldn't be either. Just try to eat healthy, balanced meals when you can.
  • I am 25w and I am still down 11lbs. I started out at 150 and by 12w I was down to 125. I am finally up to 139 but my doctors aren't worried. Only worry if your doctors are worried.
