Are you sending birth annoucements?

Hey, gals. I found the cutest designs on peartreegreetings.com and I am planning on sending out birth annoucements. Then I started to be concerned that people will think we are begging for gifts. What do you think?

I guess I will just write something on there like- "just wanted to thank you for your thoughts and prayers for us", or something.

  • I'll see how much energy I have afterward (=

  • In an effort to be eco-friendly we are doing e-announcements with a cute design. BUT, we will do early Christmas cards and send them out right after Thanksgiving so family members who want to save them can do that.  Seems like a lot of people just smile and say, "cute," and then toss birth announcements.

I'm debating it...part of me wants to do them, another part of me thinks it's a waste that will end up in the trash...

If I do them, the people who'll receive them will be mostly people who have already given us a gift.

  • I don't think sending birth announcements is asking for gifts at all.  I plan to do them, especially because there are lots of aunts/uncles/grandparents from out of town that won't be able to see the baby very often.

  • We'll send photo announcements so everyone can see the baby. My extended family is really far away and DH has family overseas.

  • I agree with pp that sending birth announcement isn't implying you want a gift.  So I wouldn't worry about that.

I was thinking of sending announcements, but now liking MamaAngelina's idea of sending early Christmas Cards instead... so I might steal that idea.

  • I will be sending them out. I dont think that birth announcements = please give me a gift. I just think it is a way to show off your LO.

That's how I feel. They are so cute, but kind of a waste.
  • We do them for every child! I like them, and just consider them a normal thing to do. They always just say that we are excited to announce a new member of our family or something like that with the name and birth details.
  • I'll probably do the photo ones.  I dont think they are begging for gifts at all.

  • I'm sending a picture magnet birth announcement.  That way if relatives want baby's picture on their refrigerator, they can put it up.

  • We are doing birth announcements for family only. Most of his family lives in FL and my family is spread out over the US so that's a great way to keep them in the loop & make them feel apart of the birth. We are planning on sending out a big email and stuff on Facebook to let everyone else know.

  • I plan to do them and don't expect any gifts from it. I always enjoy getting them, especially from people I don't see very often.

  • I plan on doing them.... but I'm SO stealing the PP's idea about early Christmas cards. Mine is mainly going to my close friends who I KNOW will stick it up on their fridges and some of our extended family/friends who we see maybe once a year (if that) but who I know would want a picture (and who I'm not facebook friends with, or don't have their email address).

We'll be sending out less than 25 I'd say. I don't think it's asking for gifts, its more of a... "Look what I did!" haha

  • we are doing them. i'm making them.

all of our family lives in indiana and most won't see the baby until Christmas, so we want to share earlier.

  • We're probably do a big email announcement to most people with pictures but send a picture postcard to our older relatives who can't access the internet. I agree with pp's on that it ends being throw away after a while.

By no means does it imply that you are looking for gifts.
