Can I wear socks during labor?

I know half of us here have never been through labor yet but some here have, so I am wondering

I plan on having a pedicure before the baby comes but I really don't like having my bare feet out anyway! Especially if a nurse or someone I don't know is going to have to hold them. All the shows I watch on Discovery Health show barefoot women!

So is it just their preference or can I wear my socks?

I think you can. Funny, I can't remember now if I did or not. Probably not because I hate them. But maybe I did because hospitals are cold. Weird!!

I wore lil slipper socks, with grips on them. My feet were cold during labor and didnt want to walk around barefoot. But I DID have a nice pedi underneath them

Thanks! Another good point - I am always cold - I'll probably be more comfortable if my feet are covered and warm too

I wore the socks that the hospital gives you.

If you are walking around during labor they don't want to you wear just socks because you can slip. Either get the socks with the grips on the bottom or bring slippers with rubber soles. I will totally be wearing socks because my feet get so cold and I also can't stand people touching my feet.

I asked the doctor this and she laughed....she said you can wear the socks with grips, the ones provided by the hospital, or regular socks with hospital provided booties (they have grips).

They just dont want you slipping/falling in regular socks as a PP said.

I wore my socks. I agree... It would have felt wierd having my barefeet up there. Plus they get cold.

With my daughter, I wore some knitted slipper socks that looked like cows. They were so comfortable.

I wore socks when I had my daughter...the warned me that I might get stuff on them, but I didn't care because I always love socks. Anyway, the socks were fine and I loved them!

The socks are not community, multi-person socks... you get your own personal pair of socks with grippers.

Yeah I still am allergic to almost all detergents and non natural fabrics. I have high maintenance skin.

I know this may sound stupid but just to give you a heads up....you can wear socks during labor and delivery but if you have to have a c-section they take your socks off to put compression things that inflate and deflate to keep your blood flowing for 24 hours so you do not get blood clots. I wore wig-wams hehehe and everyone laughed at me but my feet were toasty and I had a pretty pedicure underneath:)

My mom has always told me to pack socks. Because all your blood is circulating around your uterus during labor, your extremities get really cold.
