Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Decrease in supply (10 months)

I recently (within the last month) have had a huge decrease in my milk supply. I started my period for the first time since I had her and I have been exercising...does that have anything to do with it? I pump three times at work and only get 8 - 12 oz / day. She eats 15 -18 oz / day at daycare. I feed her at night and lately she has been eating longer and fussing more at night (maybe because i am  not making as much milk??). What should I do? My goal was to wean her at 1 year without giving her any formula but I think I am going to have to give her formula. Any suggestions/ideas on how to increase milk supply or transition from BM to formula? Thanks!

Re: Decrease in supply (10 months)

  • When I started my period back up I had a drop in my supply and the exercising may also be contributing to it.  Alot of people say good things about Mother's Milk Tea I just pumped very often (every 2-3 hrs or nurse alot) on the weekend and my supply would jump back up. For me it got harder and to maintain my supply and around 10/11 mths and I figured I had done well enough so we started transitioning to whole milk.  We did this very slowly (80/20, 70/30, 60/40 and so on) so it took about 1.5 mths to get him completely transitioned.

BTW I thought about transitioning him to formula because we had many unused cans but he'd just turn his nose up at it.

    GL!

  • I have been thinking about trying whole milk but everybody says to wait until the one year mark. She has ate ice cream and other dairy items and we have had no issue. I really don't want to use / buy formula so I may try that. Thanks so much for your help!!
