1st Trimester

Fit & Fabulous Mommies-to-be

I used to exercise regularly, then I went on vacation and got out of my routine. (I seem to do that every year).

This time, however, when I got back from vacation I was preggo! While I didn't have any symptoms for the first several weeks, I just didn't get back into my routine of going to the gym. Then the nausea and fatigue hit. I didn't have "morning sickness", I didn't throw up, I just felt like I was going to 24/7. Needless to say, this hindered my motivation to get myself to the gym.

I am now on week 9, my gym bag is in the car. Hopefully I won't feel like falling on my face when I get off work. Anyone else trying to get back on track? I really don't want to gain 60 lbs with this baby! Any motivation or encouragement is greatly appreciated!

  • This is going to sound silly, but no matter how you feel, try to make youself go tonight.  I find that when I actually go to the gym, I feel 100 times better than when I don't (even though it takes everything in me to make myself go).  Good luck!

  • I feel so lazy now!  I haven't really had m/s at all, I am just exhausted!  I have been to they gym a few times, but I can't even walk at 4 mph - let alone run!  I have heard it gets better during the 2nd trimester so I'm waiting for a couple more weeks.  Now I just go for walks at night with DH, at least it's something!

  • ME!!!!  I try to walk daily and get to the gym at least 2x/week.  I'm ok with that.  I feel if I continue my strength training and cardio it will be alright.  You're pregnant, you're supposed to take it a little easy and do what you can, not push yourself.  Good Luck!
  • I know it's hard not to work out when you're used to doing it. I think you just need to listen to your body. If you're feeling awful, rest. Usually, the nausea will pass by 2nd tri, and you'll be able to get back into a routine.

If you're worried about your weight, just make sure you're eating well. Maybe instead of doing a whole gym workout, just go for a walk in the evenings. Every little bit counts, you know?

  • I would have to agree with the pp. When I get home from work, I so don't feel like working out, but after I get dinner started (while it's cooking) I get on my bike and I feel so good after words. I guess it's b/c I know I did something beneficial. And the best part is when i eat dinner, I know I'm still burning those calories and getting the baby the nutrition s/he needs.

  • First of all, feeling like you're going to puke, even if you don't, is still considered morning sickness.  Hope you're feeling better on that front.

I have had no desire to hit the weights, but I have been walking and riding my bike.  It really helps my morning sickness and general mood to get out in the fresh air and move.  It also helps my ass from getting too huge too quickly in the first tri!  Just do what feels good to you.  I find that if I force myself to put on my shoes and go outside, the rest just happens.

GL and congrats on your vacation souvenir! :)

  • I do not know why the call is MORNING sickness! I am nauseus all day!! I don't puke I just feel like I am going too.  I have been forcing myself to walk but the thought of going back to the gym with the heat and the smells is very unappealling.  I am hoping to get back to the gym as soon as I can stomach it.  I do have to say when I walk it gives me an energy boost and I don't feel so nauseus for a little while..
  • I am trying to get back on track!  I have been trying to walk 4-5x a week, but have not been to the gym since the BFP :(  I really don't want to gain 60 lbs with this baby, either!

My m/s has just been perma-nausea, but it seems to be (knock on wood) subsiding.  I haven't gotten the gym bag to the car yet, but I would love to keep comparing notes on how we're doing!

    Good luck!  Keep us posted!

  • I'm a runner and I do Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. I haven't gone running in a little less than 2 weeks due to my breathing issues/pregnancy/tiredness. On Monday it wasn't too humid and I said that's it no matter how tired just go out for a nice slow run, walk if you must just get out there! I did and I felt FABULOUS afterwards, like best I have felt all week! I slowed down by a good minute and I sweated like a freaking pig it was so gross but I did it and was so proud! I'm going out tonight again!
  • I have been completely slacking with my workouts ever since BFP - the all-day nausea is killing me. As soon as it lets up though, I plan on easing back into it, with some pregnancy modifications.

  • I'm trying to continue working out.  Like everyone else has said, it is more of a challenge now.  I used to do 5-6 spin classes a week.  Now I'm either walking during my lunch break or after work and doing the spin classes just on the weekends.  I don't seem to have the energy for them after work any more.
  • im not fit but i am fabulose...im at that weird in beetween bump chub phase but i try to go to the gynm 4 times a week with my DH, we try to motivate each other. I felt horrible and sick after work yesterday and i forced myself to go to the gym and i felt sooo soo sooooo much better...and someone asked if i was pregnant so maybe my chub is turning to baby!! you won't gain 60 lbs just eat healthy and indulge once and a while and you will be fine!
  • I'm a runner and hope to keep running through this pregnancy.  I will be 9 weeks Sunday and although I am not throwing up, I am very queasy and very tired.  I just stick to my routine.  The alarm goes off in the morning and I force myself out of bed and into my running clothes and get it done.  I do feel much better afterwards.  Just do it.
  • I?m a runner as well and have managed to maintain my running pretty much everyday since my BFP. The only change I?ve made is that I generally stick to 3/4 milers where I used to do 4/6?s and I?m running at a little slower pace. I FORCE myself to do this.. I have been exhausted and nauseas (not throwing up thankfully) but I find that as pain in the a$$ as it is to drag myself to the gym it is SOOO worth it after. I feel a million times better afterward no matter how crappy I felt before.
