has anyone heard of OHSS from clomid?

have any of you heard of someone getting OHSS from a clomid cycle? my RE said that it's usually only a concern with injectibles, but i'm getting anxious, because the area around my ovaries is getting increasingly painful. (i'm on CD8 of a clomid cycle.) thoughts? TIA!

  • On Clomid, I had constant ovarian pain/cramping from about the 2nd day of the pills through the 20th day.  OHSS is possible on Clomid, which is why it's so important for you to get monitored.  Will you be having a mid-cycle u/s?

  • I had one cancelled cycle due to OHSS starting to develop.  It was a random thing b/c it wasn't a high dose.  I got VERY bloated and had a lot of pain in that area, but I already knew the issue b/c my u/s showed six mature follies and a bunch of immature ones as well. Luckily that only happened once.
  • I had some pain/discomfort with Clomid too. It felt like ovarian pain and kind of a squishy, bloated discomfort in my lower abdomen. I did receive an u/s and my ovaries were fine, but I had a lot of fluid in my abdomen which my OBGYN said was causing the pain. I would definitely suggest getting monitored. I've heard that OHSS is less common w/ Clomid, but it can happen.
  • yes, but not until next monday (CD14). do you think i should go sooner if i'm having pain?

  • I actually had OHSS on my second 100 mg round of Clomid.

    Ditto PP about being monitored.

  • My acupuncturist told me she worked on a woman who had it really, really badly from Clomid.  If you are in a lot of pain, definitely call your RE.  Some discomfort is definitely to be expected, but actual pain, not so much.

CD14 does seem a little late, but if your RE doesn't have weekend hours, CD11 (this Friday) might be a little early.  If you can make it until Monday, I would.  If you get really concerned, I would give your doc a call and see if they think you should come in earlier.

  • I had cramping on CD 11 after taking if from CD 5-9. Then two days before ovulation I had extreme pain and bloating. It was uncomfortable to have intercourse. Then on day 16 I felt my ovaries were going to tear apart. I don't know if it helps but that has been my experience.
