I had my first US today. I'm supposed to be 8 weeks and 2 days. As soon as the blip came up on the screen I knew something wasn't right. The Fetal heart rate was only at 59-63 bpm. The baby was only measuring at 6 weeks 3 days.
They told me to wait a week for another US. I know my dates are spot on. In order for this week measurement to be correct I would have had to have concieved AFTER I got a positive pregnancy test. It's just not possible.
Anyone have any stories of grossly "off" dates and incredibly slow fetal heart rate, or am I just kidding myself here?
Re: Our baby stopped growing 2 weeks ago...but still HB
They did both (internal and external). The internal was very clear with the slow heart rate and measurement. It was just sad because you SEE the blip of the heart and then they tell you it's too slow.
I replied on ML, but I'll tell you my brief story here.
I went in a little over 7 weeks. The baby measured perfectly, but the heart rate was 103. The ultrasound tech tried to blow smoke up my skirt by telling me it was "just a little on the low side." But when I got home and did my own research, I found that it was drastically low for a 7.5 week old embryo. I asked my OB, and he told me I had a 50/50 chance. I was scheduled to return in 1 week for a follow-up ultrasound.
The waiting was horrible, as I'm sure you are fully aware.
When we returned 4 days later (I simply could not wait the full week), our baby's heart had stopped. The m/c never happened on its own, and I had a D&C.
It was one of the worst experiences of my adult life. I never anticipated a m/c could affect me so greatly. The nesties on this board were phenomenal and supportive.
I'm sorry you have to go through this.

BOSCO - My first son
Stumpy, with my last surprise pregnancy I went into the 8W appt like you did, excited to see the little bean in there. But the baby only measured 6W 1D. According to their calculations I had ovulated 2 days before getting my positive test. The u/s tech and OB insisted that my dates were just off, and that crazier things have happened, because the heartbeat was 120 and great for that gestational week. I had to BEG for a repeat u/s 2 weeks later.
I started spotting the night before that next appt. Nothing crazy - just some light pink/brown. I thought M/C = bright red so this must be something else. I googled myself mad and prediagnosed myself as having some subchorionic hemorrage (sp). No cramping, light spotting, so I figured that had to be it.
But at the u/s the next morning we found the baby still measuring 6W 1D. I should've been 10W by then. Bean had not grown at all since that last appt, and there was no longer a heartbeat. I had a D&C 2 days later. It was a very easy procedure, just sucked emotionally.
Anyway I know what you're going through, hang in there. If you have any questions or need to vent, I'm here for you.
I can first say that you are posting on the miscarraige board so most of us do not have happy endings to our stories.
Here is mine. Got my BFP 0n 6/5/09 the day I was expecting my period (4wks). I was tracking my dates and ovulations. at 8.5 wks I had some post coital bleeding which stopped within a half an hour. MD wanted a sonagram and the baby measured 6w2d sac measured 7w1d. which also means that i got my BFP before I conceived. we waited a week and went back for another sonagram (supposed to be 9.5 weeks) baby still measured 6w2d sac measured 8w1d. diagnosed with a missed m/c and had a D&C 2 days later. Baby never had a heartbeat so I cannot tell you about that part. D&C was not that bad but emotionally I was a mess. If you want people who have a better "result" you might want to post on the 1st trimester board they may have better endings.
The ladies here are amazing so if you do end up joining us it has helped me so much just to talk with others who have gone through the same thing.
<<hugs>>
My best friend had an u/s at 7 weeks with a very low HB and retarded growth. She went in a week later expecting the worst and to her surprise the baby was measuring where it should and had a normal hearbeat. I'm not telling you that m/c don't happen, but miracles do happen. My friend had already assumed her baby was gone and was planning her d&c when the miracle changed all that. she is now 14 weeks and still has a healthy baby. She's also a labor and delivery nurse so she's got her facts straight and not embellishing a great story. I hope you have a healthy hb next u/s.
This.
