Ugh! I Dont Know What To Do!! (Cat Related)

Our cats wont stop peeing on our stuff!! One cat has been peeing on our couch (3 times), and the other we caught peeing on DS's blanket! They've also been peeing & pooping right outside of the little box. The litter box is kept clean, so im not understanding why they are using the bathroom everywhere else!!! Im SO frustrated, and i cant have this keep happening, especially since just so gross and unsanitary - especially for DS

I just dont know what to do anymore.

  • Have you talked to your vet?  I really don't know much about cats but I do know they often don't handle change well.  They have kitty "prozac" that might help.

  • Have your cats been doing this for a while or is this a new thing to pee outside the litter box?  Also, have you changed their litterbox locations or made other big changes in your house?  We had this problem too before DS was born (he's a Tyler too!) and our vet said it was due to anxiety issues from moving their litterbox and setting up the nursery.
  • well, the one cat does NOT like DS at all!! the other tolerates him, and i think its mostly that they dont like DS. I think it was happening before we moved in april, but we never had proof (i could smell it on the carpets but could never pin point where it was coming from).

We took one of them to the doc and they gave us amoxicillan (sp?) and thought "maybe" it was a UTI (he already has something called cystyis but they ruled that out).

  • We thought our cat (we have two but only one had peeing issues)  had a uti also, he was even peeing blood at one point.  But the vet told us it was not a uti but his anxiety that was causing the peeing.  I don't know what to suggest since it is your son that they are reacting too.  Luckily all we had to do was limit the changes being made around the house, let them investigate everything we were doing to ds's room and actually add extra water bowls throughout the house (I thought that was crazy, like they need more ammo).

Our vet said if that didn't work then an anti-anxiety meds would be our next step.  Thank god it didn't come to that, I don't know how much the meds cost but just thinking about it caused me anxiety.  Sorry I couldn't help more.Sad

  • pre-baby one of our cats routinely peed on our leather sofa....

nobody was a happy camper.  after ruling out any medical conditions, we put her on prozac... kitty prozac is regular human prozac.  some vets can have it mixed in and packaged into kitty treats (my mother in law has this done for her two neurotic cats that used to pee everywhere)

  • Make sure to create a plan to at least try to wean the cat off of the medication (if you're so inclined).  We were able to wean after 3 months or so.
