For those who had their shower.. Did you get a lot of the things you registred for? My friends having her shower in 2 weeks and I'm the only one who bought a couple things off her registry.. not to mention they were tiny things.

I had 92 items on my registry and ended up getting about 75 at my shower. Everything was bought, including the big ticket items. It's really a hit or miss though. I've been to showers where nothing was bought off the registry. I personally love buying off of registries, it makes shopping so much easier.
My friend hardly received anything at her shower because everyone bought her cute little girl clothes....since she announced the sex early. This is one of the reasons DH and I are not telling anyone that we know the sex. I would think it would be hit or miss though. For our wedding shower, I'd say we got about 50% of our registry items.
For our first shower, the only thing on the registry that was bought was a package of bottles and burp cloths which were used for a game that was played. Everyone gave us hooded towels and clothes.
My next shower is this weekend and I admit to totally stalking the registry. Maybe 7 of the 70 things have been purchased, so it's a good start since they are really useful things!

I went to two showers over the weekend: one as a host, one as a guest. The one I went to as a guest, she got EVERYTHING and then some. It was amazing. The one I hosted, she got barely anything. But I think it's because she invited a bunch of grandma types and their gifts were homemade blankets, outfits, etc.
IMO you shouldn't rely on others' gifts to take care of baby's needs.
last time around (4 years ago)--almost everything was bought off my registries--
this time im having only one and much smaller sprinkle--I only have one registry with about 25 items and there are about 30 pp invited to the sprinkle--it will be in three weeks and 4 items have already been bought--
Sometimes, people are annoyed by trying to mark their item off on the registry. From our wedding registry we got lots of items that hadn't been marked off. I think people look at the registry sometime and just buy an item without telling the store associate they bough it off a registry.
(I'm sorta lurking on this board, since I'm way too early to be worry about my registry, but...)
Before I got married I used to be one of those people who thought registries were too inpersonal, and I'd always find some other more 'sentimental' or 'creative' or 'thoughful' gift to buy.... that ALL changed once I got married and realized that people create registries because that's WHAT THEY WANT!!! Now at most I'll buy off a registry and then maybe throw in a little extra something that is either just cute or goes along with the 'theme'. (If i bought someone a baby bathtub, maybe I'd throw in a rubber ducky).
Anyway, I do think with baby showers people are just drawn to clothing, but it's the other practical stuff that new moms really need.
