F/u to m/s meds post

I called my doctor and asked about medicines for my m/s. They presribed me phenergan and also said I can take emetrol OTC. I've heard that phenergan basically knocks you out but she said to take it every 8 hours? Anyone have experience with either of these medicines? I'm still nervous about taking anything.

Re: F/u to m/s meds post

  • Phenergan totally knocks me out, about 2 hours after I take it, and I usually sleep for 2-4 hours. I can't function on it. I take it at night or when I can stay home and nap. The first few times I took it I was totally hungover for about 24 hours, too, but that went away when I started taking it regularly.

I've never tried emetrol. I don't think it's very strong though, from what other people have said...if they had bad m/s, they wound up on something else.

I think they should try zofran or reglan for daytime. Plus, both of those are class B and phenergan is class C. (Not that I've ever heard of any harm with phenergan, it's used all the time.) Don't be afraid to ask for one of those, they're used very commonly.

  • Thanks. You seem to have a lot of knowledge on this. I see my doctor late next week so I'm going to try to hold out on taking it until after that if I can so I can talk directly with her. They already called in the rx so I may go pick it up just in case and ask the pharmacist about why she would have prescribed this for me instead of zofran or reglan.
  • Even taking half a pill of phenergan knocks me out.  I was prescribed that pre-pg when I had stomach issues.  I would try and find emetrol, however, MIL swears up and down the company is going under and is no longer producing the product anymore.
  • I posted something similar last week....

My dr. just gave me Finnergen - it helps, but knocks me out.  I have been taking 1/2 a tablet while at work - so then I only feel 1/2 quesy and 1/2 sleeply (which I think is better than totally nauseaus or totally asleep).  When I asked about Zofran, my dr. was hesitant - something about insurance and it sometimes not being covered.  However, I just called my dr. to ask for the Zofran again, since I'd like to be less quesy and not tired - not too much to ask I hope!  Good luck!

  • I take half a phenegren at a time.   I'm so tired all the time anyway that I haven't really seen a difference with the phenegren.
