We ordered the Wahmies Multi-Purpose Wipes from m_and_m, but I was wondering what you guys do with your cloth wipes.?
Do you keep them dry and wet them before each use (with a peri bottle or squirt bottle, what?)? Do you have a tub you keep them in so they are moist and ready when you need 'em? Do you just use water, or water + baby wash, or some specific wipe solution?
Also, before first use can I toss the wipes in with one of the wash cycles when we prep our PFs, or should I wash them separately? I know the prep-wash cycles strip oils from the PFs, so I don't know if having the wipes in there with that process would be a bad idea??
Thanks so much ladies! I am getting so excited to see Camy with her little fluffy diapers on! ?
Re: CD Mamas - talk to me about wipes.
It took me forever to find a way to use wipes that worked for me. I tried the dry wipes with the spray, but after a while I noticed that the soap was leaving marks on our dresser (we just use the top of our dresser). I did not want to ruin the finish of the dresser so I ditched that idea.
I use this solution (well I just guess now, but I measured in the beginning):
2 cups water
1 tbsp Burts Bees body wash
1/2 to 1 tbsp Burts Bees apricot oil
I use this wipes warmer:
https://www.target.com/Munchkin-Standard-Wipe-Warmer/dp/B000CNOIQ2/sr=1-1/qid=1249408639/ref=sr_1_1/185-1729932-4679630?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&rh=k:wipes warmer&page=1
Sorry, no clicky. It is the munchkin one. It does not require the inserts like some of the others. I really like it.
So every night or during naps, I make up the solution, get the wipes wet, wring them out and put them in the warmer. With the receipe above I use all the solution and fill the wipes warmer.
For washing I just threw them in with our diapers for the first time. I did not use prefolds though.
We keep them dry and stacked on the shelf under the changing table and just wet before each use with a clean bottle we got from the hospital with the nozzle with holes (kinda looks like a little water bottle).
I pre-washed once with one of the loads of CDs and it worked for us. We washed the CDs several times.
And I just add a drop of her shampoo/soap in with the water. (We use California Baby tea tree/lavender)
I use a wipes solution in a wipes warmer. I just put the wipes in there, and pour the solution in. I do that about every 2-3 days. I'm still experimenting with wipes solutions as well as with making my own. I'm currently using Baby Bits that I got from www.momsmilkboutique.com. I really liked the California Baby diaper wash solution diluted with water, but it got really expensive. I also bought some Dr. Bronners baby liquid soap that I'm going to try out with tea tree oil and water.
I just washed my with one of my prewash cycles of the diapers.
I mix up the solution in an old disposable wipes container (DH will use CDs but for some reason, won't use cloth wipes
) and dip the wipes in there when I use one. I tried a squirt bottle, but I didn't feel like it got them wet enough.
I chose a solution from this site. I just do the basic, but I want to experiment with some of the others. I don't remember what I did when I pre-washed the wipes. That's horrible, my mind must be going.
We keep wipes in a stack by the changing table and just wet as needed. I have a spray bottle that I made the solution in (using Washy Wafers ordered through m_and_m) and keep it next to the wipes.
I made my own wipes using flannel, so I washed the material in the same detergent I wash diapers in before I made them.
:-)
You can store them dry and use a spray, either on the wipe or on the baby (this is good for the diaper bag)
You can use a foam same as the spray
You can store them wet with water in either a warmer or sposie wipes container, then use spray/foam as above
You can soak them in a solution and store them in a warmer or sposie container (I do this. I fold up enough wipes to fit in the warmer, then I make 1-1.5c of solution and pour them over the wipes. It's just enough liquid that the bottom ones get wet but there is no actual sitting water.)
If you use soap in your solutionm I rec using a very very small amount. Otherwise you are basically leaving a soapy residue on your baby's bum.
We use the same warmer. Right now we aren't using any solution, we're just using water. Is that bad?
