Eco-Friendly Family

Hey, Poonico...wanna' be my learn-to-knit buddy?

I was just thinking this morning (before seeing your post, even!) that I really want to learn to knit this winter.  It's something I've always wanted to learn, but just haven't taken the time.  I would love to be able to watch TV with DH while working on one of my projects.  Right now, that just isn't possible (the sewing studio just isn't all that mobile...lol).

So, whaddya' say?  Wanna' be my knitting buddy?

=)

  • I'm jealous - I may have to get in on this too... *looks at glad and poonico with puppy dog eyes and points to her unfinished knitting project with the pesky dropped stitch*

  • Just as long as you don't fall in love with her or make the moves on her over study sessions......she's my wifey!

  • The more the merrier!  I'm a knitting oaf, so I'll probably be the tagalong-kid in this group.

    Sad

  • Oh, no worries about that, TC -- I'm head-over-heels in love with my wifey.   In fact, I'm staying at her house for several days after Canning Camp is over.  I fully intend to have her teach me all of her mad knitting skillz.

    Ahhhh....tea.....couch....Jenn's house....knitting....so idyllic...

  • YES!

That would be so amazing, and motivating Big Smile

    I love it!

BTW, are those pan patties???  I have 4 in my fridge from my grandma... how do you cook them?

  • I volunteer to mentor if you need it.  Gotta spread the knitting love.
  • YAY!!  I can't wait to get started!  Ohhhhhhhh, how I'd love to knit some longies for Joshie this winter.

Yep, the squash in my siggy are pattypans.  The orange thing next to them is a standard-size navel orange.  The squash are FREAKING HUGE!  They're so so so sweet and yummy.  Last night, I just sliced them thin and sauteed them in some butter, salt and pepper.  I cooked some bow-tie pasta,  stirred in the sauteed squash, and topped it all with feta cheese.  The family went NUTS!

Yay!  Your stuff is so beautiful, MTOW.  I'm incredibly jealous of your skill!

  • I'm currently in the middle of trying to knit a little hat for Julia. By the time I finish it her head will be grown out of it! Can I join your little group?! pretty please...with cherries on top!

    Of course!

  • How does one go about teaching themselves to knit?  I assume there are tutorials of some sort out there but how do you find a good one?  I'm inclined to think that trying this would be cheaper for me than trying out sewing.....yes?  That way if I give up I'm out only a little instead of a lot.

patience, youtube and a good book :)

I taught myself that way a while back (about 4 years now). Once you learn the basics it's easy/easier to pick up new stitches etc. Now, if you want to talk about fiddling around with patterns you'll need to talk to someone will some math skills - I certainly don't have those!!

  • In theory, yes.  But my understanding is that you can easily become addicted (and bankrupt) by visiting a good yarn store.  Eekers.  Surprise

I bought the book, Stitch and Biitch.  I'll use that (and YouTube, and Jenni) to learn.  The title is encouraging to me, as I'm pretty sure I already have one part of it down to a science.

I too have half of that down!  Probably more than down, in fact.

How long have you been knitting?  You're like superwoman when it comes to knitting!

  • I'll join! I just requested the Stitch n B*tch book from the library last night! The DSD board did a sew a long recently where they all committed to sewing longies, found patterns and posted pics as they worked on them etc. We could do something like that!

    I LOVE this idea!!

But, um, can we start with a washcloth, or something similar?

    Embarrassed

I don't think we even really have to do the same project at all. They all did soakers and longies but it's a diaper making website so that's not surprising. Not everyone was using the same pattern or anything so it was more of a support group setting. Like if someone was stuck on something, someone else who might know what they needed to do would jump in and help or whatever. I think we could easily all work on whatever floated our boat!
