Unwanted advice...sleeping (mini vent)

Does anyone else have a BIG problem with people giving unsolicited advice?

For example, DS has been waking recently between 2:00-4:00 am and I can't get him to go back down in his crib.  If I pick him up to rock him, he passes out but will wake right up when I put him back in the crib, so I've been bringing him to bed with us until he wakes for the day at 6:00.  I can't tell you how many people think I'm crazy and need to just let him cry.  Sorry, I'm just not ready to do that.  He's not hungry, or at least I don't think he is since he always passes right back out.  I am especially irked when I get these comments from people who aren't parents.  I try really hard not to give out too much info so I dont' hear it but when asked "why do you look so tired today", I answer them.  AUGH!!!!!  Thanks for listening/reading!!  Smile

  • Yes, I hear you!  My FIL said that I should let ds cry it out at 7 weeks.  No thanks.

If you're doing what you think is right and works for your and your family, then don't feel bad about it!  And maybe just stop answering with info...just say, oh we had a rough night, but we're doing fine! Or something to end the conversation!

  • There's just something about new babies that screams "I KNOW YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MY SITUATION, BUT HEY, TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK" , it's annoying but I just smile and nod at this point!

P.S. I used to live in Richmond, and kind of miss it...

  • All the time!  Most of the advice comes from my MIL which makes it even more annoying.  For example, lately DD has been waking up at 5 am instead of sleeping until 7 or 7:30.  She has always been a great sleeper so this is kinda odd, but I figure she is prime for the 3 month growth spurt, start of wakeful, or early teething.  I get up with her, change her diaper, feed her, rock her back to sleep, and occassionally have to take her back to bed with us.  MIL says that I should be giving her a few ounces of water instead of formula so she knows that it isn't even worth waking up.  She also tells me to let her CIO if that doesn't work.  I used to tell her why her ideas are bad ideas, but it just isn't worth it any more.
  • I hate that too. They ask you a question and you answer so that means they can just give you some stupid advice. It's worse when the advice it totally ridiculous.
  • Yes, the two grandmothers give unsolicited advice, especially MIL, who when she watches LO doesn't do things the way I ask her to because she feels that she knows better.

  • OOPS....computer had a mind of it's own!

My MIL is a whole other story.  She even tells me I don't raise my dog properly to which I told her to take it then!
