DS waking to "talk"

For the past week and a half, my DS (who usually STTN) has been waking between 12-1am and "talking".  It's almost always a loud "dadadadada", some grunting, some fussing, etc.  Because it's so out of the ordinary for him to wake, we always go in and check right away to see if he is wet (we have a video monitor, so if he is stuck in the crib slats or anything like that, we can see) because that's usually the only time he really wakes. We have been turning the crib soother on and he does eventually go back to sleep.  Anyone else deal with this and how long did it last?  What did you do, if anything?  He is WIDE awake when it happens.

  • If he's just awake and not crying, I would just leave him.  You might be waking him up even more when you go in there and making it harder for him to go to sleep.

DD will still do this occasionally, especially if she's really tired.

  • Umm not yesterday but the night before my lo just sat up in his crib, wide awake, just talking. This was unusual for us too bc my lo has been sttn since about 11wks give or take a few nights here and there.

I think its just bc they are realizing they can do so much so sleeping is not what they want to be doing.

  • LOL aidan did that when she was older. we called it "the aidan show". and from 2-3am or so, she'd talk in her crib. then go to sleep. no biggie.

How long did it last?  Did she ever cry?  The first couple nights DS did this, he started crying after about 5 min. of talking, so we went in.  It's so hard to tell if something is bothering him b/c he "yells" at 12-1am.  It's cute if nothing is wrong or bothering him, but we just can't tell until it's too late (i.e. we have gone in to check if he has soaked through his sleeper and sheet).

  • One thing we do now- overnight diapers.  DS was leaking out of his diapers, so we got overnights and that solved the problem.  If you don't, try this so that you dont' have to worry if he's leaked or not.  The less interaction you have at night, probably the better chance that he'll grow out of this phase.

We do use overnight diapers.  DS is a big eater.  He was leaking out of the size 3 Huggies overnights, so we bought size 4.  He hasn't leaked out of those yet, but he fills them up.  We are just gun shy now.
