feeling sick for 24 hours straight help!

so I have had m/s on and off.  But since yesterday morning it hasn't gone away at all.  I barely ate dinner and got down a piece of toast this morning.  I was up for 3 hours in the middle of the night feeling like this.  I have to go to work and I feel so sick.  I don't know how to get through the day.  Any suggestions to make this nausea feeling go away?  I didn't puke this time yet.  besides ginger ale....

Re: feeling sick for 24 hours straight help!

  • I read somewhere ginger tea relieves nausea. I hope you feel better. I used to drink coke and lemon with saltines. It worked for me everytime.

  • I'm nauseated 24/7, so I'm taking Zofran twice daily and phenergan every night (causes drowsiness, so I don't take it during the day.)

    Nothing else worked.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • Im on day 22. I literally have no words of advice. It sucks Ick!
  • I'm feeling the same way that you are but I don't have any words of advice either. I find things that help for a day and then they make me sick. I'm thinking about asking the doc for meds.
  • Candied ginger works for me.  They typically sell at it Whole Foods or places like that.

One caution -- if you think you're getting too dehydrated, call your doc.  I was sick with DS1 for 3 solid days - vomit every 10-15 minutes.  I ended up needing to be on IVs because of the dehydration.  After that, they gave me medication and it helped a lot.

Does it really work? ?Does it make the nausea go away??

  • My advice on things to try.............cinnamon candies, ginger ale, saltines, taking a day off work if possible to get rest, peppermint tea, etc.  That said nothing has worked for me really and I have been getting IV's weekly and taking all sorts of meds.  I miss a day to two days per week of work but I feel like I just gotta stay positive and take it one day at a time.  If you are throwing up alot I would say talk to your doctor about fluids and meds because it will help you at least "catch up." I normally feel better for about a day or so.  Good luck and I hope things look up for you!

  • I am so sorry!  I had the same symptoms - the nausea never let up, not evenat night.  I tried every kind of remedy - crackers, ginger ale, bland foods, eating small amounts regularly, etc.  Nothing worked, so like Carmela, I am now on Zofran.  I take 1 day, sometimes 2.  It literally is a life saver.  It doesn't make it all go away, but it takes the edge off, and you are able to FUNCTION.  I still have major food aversions, and dry heave once in a while, but I can actually get up, go to work, and sleep through the night.  Please talk to your doc, and like someone else said, try to stay on top of your fluids no matter what.  Good luck!

  • CHEW MINT GUM. TRUST ME.
  • I have the same expected due date as you (3/10/10) and am also as sick as a dog. Nothing works for me either. I'm also taking Zofran - I can't imagine what I would be like if I didn't. I get sick with it anywhere from 1 - 3 times a day. Its been that way for the last 3 weeks.  I've never wanted summer to go so fast in my life.  I just want to get to week 12 and pray its over then.
  • I ended up going to urgent care this last Sunday and they put me on an IV to hydrate me and then gave me Ondansetron (no idea if that is the same as Zofran) but I can finally function now as well!  I'm still gaggy and have to continuously eat but at least now I can actually eat!
