DH's annoying/ignorant preg. related question #1

Me:  Ugh.  I'm so bloated, crampy, nauseous, aaaand my boobs hurt.

DH:  So, do you really think you would be having these symptoms if you didn't already know you were pregnant?

What?!  Does he think I've just imagined all this out of thin air because of two little lines!?  Talk about insensitive.  Ladies, they just don't understand....

  • Only once did my DH suggest my symtoms were psychosomatic . . .  :)

  • ugh, my DH said the same thing. Apparently i'm making all my symptoms up because i've read about them. So its all in my head. Thanks DH love you too, arse!

  • I totally know how you feel.  Yesterday when I came home from the doctor he mine goes "so did they weigh you? how much"  I replied I've gained 6 pounds "Oh wow, isn't that too much?"  Gee thanks!
  • hahahah nope!! whatever you do don't let him watch I didn't know i was pregnant on TLC then he will really think you are making up your symptoms! Just tell him to piss off and clean the house while you sit on the couch!! Thats what i did in early first tri...Now im up in the middle of the night emptying the dishwasher!! haha mama they have no clue about whats going on....wait until you get a little further and you say im so nauseaus and my nipples are killing me and DH say ....why babe? just hang in there mama!
  • I don't think they will really get it until they see a bump.

    me:no, im just fat, thankyouverymuch.

DH: no, really,  i think theres something there.

ME: yeah, fat. and gas.  i even lost 4lbs so far.  HUMPF!

  • well at 6 weeks +, yeah those are real...but i did wonder if beyond cramping, those "symptoms" i felt at 4/early 5 weeks were all in my head. feeling my m/s now is a lot worse than what i thought it was/could have been two weeks ago.

andplusalso, pretty sure YOU know if your boobs hurt or if you are crampy. two lines or not :)

yea, thats exactly what i'm thinking. Once they see the bump, maybe they'll understand a bit better

  • It's funny my DH doesn't doubt my symptoms everyone else does and I get so mad cause I'm not making this stuff up. According to everyone else it's to early. Excuse me?? Are you pregnant? No so shut up. Dh does say pregnancy is not a sickness if I complain about how tiredsome grocery shopping was. I just give him a dirty look.

  • LOL last night DH told me his mother told him to remember that I'll get tired early in the night and to not give me too much grief about it. I look at him and go "didn't you already know that?" he has a 17yr old stepson why is this new to him? I think he's forgotton it over the years!
  • Thanks, mommas, for reaffirming my thoughts!  Here's another one for ya:

Yesterday a coworker commented that I looked like crap, and I told her that, yes, I was up all night lurching, so that's why I didn't look so cute.  Anyway, as I turned around to go back to my office, another coirker says, "So, I couldn't help but overhear your SAD SOB STORY.  Ooops, don't take that the wrong way or anything..."

  • Yes, my DH is ordinarily pretty sensitive, but some of this pregnancy stuff he thinks is a funny joke. He laughs at a lot of it, like cravings and strange symptoms. I don't know if it's his way of dealing or holding the overwhelming idea of being a dad at an arm's length for now, or what.

  • My FI did the same thing... I could have shot him... OH WELL!!! He is getting better now!

  • I think a lot of men do think that its mind over matter... pshya... right... try having a crazy influx of hormones and see how you handle it!! He was convinced that my symptoms came on due to stress. He hasn't said ANYTHING like that since. lol.

He makes fun of me now sometimes though (to lighten the mood) by saying that I like to say I feel like crap lol... yeah shut up hubby. I LOVE IT! Not...

  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's DH just doesn't get it. He says it's in my head too. What pisses me off the most is when he says, "Mind over matter. You won't be sick if you don't want to be sick." GRRRR. Yes, I really really enjoy vomiting up every meal.
  • I had someone tell me that if I didn't read any books I wouldn't have any symptoms. She said when she was pregnant she never read a book and never felt sick or anything. Umm, pretty sure I'd still be feeling like crap, I'd just be terrified that something was deathly wrong with me if I didn't know to expect to feel this terrible!
  • Yuk. My DH likes to tell me that I wanted this. Yes, I wanted to be pregnant. NO, I did not want to feel like I'm going to vomit 24/7, have no energy, have my back ache, etc....

  • I hate to play the devil's advocate here, but I think it's a valid question.  He doesn't understand what you're going through and this is the beginning of 9 months of you having a relationship with the baby that he doesn't get to have.  He's curious and maybe a little jealous.  He doesn't get it, so try and help him understand.
  • My DH did the same thing.  I wasn't quite as far as you (like maybe 5 weeks and some days)  and told him that I was bloated and nauseous.  He said the exact same thing your husband said!!!!!  He's lucky i didn't slap him (unfortunately, he was working 8 hours away, so i couldn't)  I was super mad at him for that.

  • Since this is my second baby, my DH does not dare to say that my symptoms are made up. (I put him through hell the first time around).
  • DH told me once that me being sick was "getting really old" No freaking kidding! I'm the one that's been barfing for 2 months, not you! He also said if I just stopped thinking about being sick I wouldn't be. Gee, he should right a book. If it's that easy he'll sell a million copies and be rich in no time.....

  • Yep, I too got the, "I think you are making this out to be worse than it is."

    Excuse me???

Did you really just say that?
