Parenting after a Loss

She just doesn't want to walk

I've been working with Sophia on walking and she will sometimes when we hold her hands.  A lot of the times, she just wants to get down and crawl.  Are we not working with her enough and should I be worried that she's not walking at 12 months?  It seems like a lot of babies younger than her are walking already.

Re: She just doesn't want to walk

  • I wouldn't worry AT ALL. ?One of my BFF's son just learned to walk at 16 months. ?I know plenty of babies not walking at a year. ?It's great that Sophia is showing interest, so unless your pedi says otherwise, I wouldn't worry. ?

  • I thought 14m is the average so that means a bunch are after that and still fine too.  I don't think you need to worry at all, especially if she is crawling.

  • I wouldn't worry about it unless your pediatrician is concerned.  There's a wide range for walking.  I do understand worrying about what they're doing/not doing.  Kate has been behind on just about everything from the get go and it does get frustrating.

Our pediatrician doesn't expect Kate to walk until she's closer to 15 months.  She never crawled or rolled anywhere and is just getting the hang of cruising and is sort of scooting sometimes, but she's not very coordinated yet.  Silly girl was a lump on the floor until 11.5 months.  We are just now having to baby-proof!

  • Let me give you my usual advice: don't let the genius babies on the Nest get to you! ;)  There is a range for walking, and it's usually between 9 and 15 months.

  • My neice and nephew were both like 16-17 months when they learned to walk. My other neice walked at 12 months.. I feel like these kids that walk at 9-10  months are SOOO ahead of the game!

  • I didnt walk until I was 14 months.

I can't possibly see Avery ready to walk in 2 months either...Homegirl is LAZY.

Unless your pedi is concerned, I wouldn't worry about it, she will do it on her own time

  • DS is the same age as Sophia and I could have written this post myself. Sometimes he'll humor us and play along when we try to walk with him but for the most part he just wants to crawl because its faster. I don't stress about it, he'll walk when he walks. I see no point in rushing him to grow up with milestones. He's happy, the ped is happy so I see no problem with it. Just wanted you to know you aren't alone!
