Preemies

When did your preemie start teething?

I thought I read that preemies teeth later then term babies but I swear my guys are teething now. I think I can see/feel the bottowm 2 and they are are putting everything into their mouth and drooling like crazy. Could they be teething now?  THey are only 3 monhts adjust so it seems a little early but is it possible?

My pediatrician is uselss in dealing with this stuf.. He hasno experience with preemies.

Re: When did your preemie start teething?

  • DS didn't get his first tooth until 10 1/2 months but I think he "teethed" long before his teeth started coming in. He has always drooled alot and still does at times (he only has two bottom teeth and an under developed facial muscle). I don't think it is too early but may be unsual. Some babies get teeth as early has four months.

  • I think all babies are different, preemie or not. I have a friend who had a full term baby and he got teeth starting at 10 weeks!!!!  Addie didn't get teeth until 10 months!  Do I think her being 5 weeks early is the reason?  Probably not.  I think they probably get them later than they would have had they made if full term, but you just don't know when they will get them, so it is impossible to know.

Addie started having teething "signs" starting at 2 months... but they never came! haha!  Or at least not for a long time!

  • Marino started teething at 5.5 months actual (3.5 adjusted) but he didn't actually get a tooth until 10 months. He got 2 that month and none since! He still teeths like a mad man, though!
  • I want to say 11 months actual, so 8 months adjusted...he has 6 teeth total now. ?Sharp little razors...ouch! lol
  • DD has been teething for months, but still doesn't have any.

  • We've been able to see Robbie's top front teeth through the skin since about 4 months adjusted. He didn't get his first teeth (bottom front) until 11 1/2 months actual. he STILL doesn't have those top teeth.
  • DS got his first tooth at 5.5 months actual (3.5 adjusted).  Both DH and I got our teeth early.  Our pedi didn't believe me when I told him I thought DS was teething, but I was right.  Mama always knows best.
  • Sam cut his first tooth at 11 months (8.5 adjusted) and now has 6 in!  He started drooling like crazy at 4 months, though... but no tooth showed until 11 months.  I too heard that preemies get teeth later, but you never know!
  • DS cut his first teeth at 6.5 months actual (4.5 adjusted).  He now has 12 teeth, and is working on 2 more.

  • I think DD started teething at about 5 months.  Her first tooth came in the day she was 7 months and her second one came in 6 days later.

  • Every child is different.  DS1 was full term and did not get his first tooth until 14 1/4 months.  He teethed for months before that first tooth broke through.
