I have a trip coming up that is like a 2 hour flight away. We have been planning this week long vacation for a while. After dealing with fertility issues, we decided to just go for it and booked our flights a couple weeks ago.
Now I am worried that I will be sick and tired the whole time. Do you think I should post pone it until 2nd trimester? Or should I go ahead and have our babymoon at 8 weeks pregnant? I am only four weeks, and I have no idea what to expect as far as pg symptoms... should I just expect the worse or go for it?
Re: Would you want to be on vacation at 8weeks?
I just got back from my babymoon, but I could have done it at 8 wks if it would have worked out that way. I was EXHAUSTED at 8 wks, but depending on where you are going and what you're doing, it should be fine. It's nice to get away with DH and enjoy each other, not to mention a break fm work! Is it somewhere relaxing you can park your tired bottom in a lounge chair with a book and a beach/pool? If so,that would have been heaven to me at 8 wks!! Just take it easy and rest often when you get tired.
Oh yeah, and get an aisle seat for the plane if you can!! I had to get up to pee (I counted!) 7 times on my 7 1/2hr flight back from London Friday.
I know, that's a toughie. You really have NO idea how your body will react. I had a girls' weekend 1500 miles away when I was 7 weeks. I had MAJOR anxiety about whether or not I'd be feeling sick by that point, but I didn't cancel b/c it'd been in the works for 6 months.
Know what? I never got m/s. At least not to a debilitating degree. Not even to an annoying degree. I had a great time at that girls' weekend.
I ditto the sentiment of the pp. If you're going to be somewhere you can lay around and relax, I'd go for it!
Hey Boxie
We were supposed to go on a family vacation when I would be 8 weeks. ?However, I haven't left the couch/bathroom floor in days and can't imagine traveling or even getting in a car...so we cancelled. ?
?Would you lose any money? ?Can you wait and see how you feel?
I know if you booked with an airline like Southwest you can exchange your tickets for later. ?
Unfortunately it will be touring cities in the pacific northwest. There will be a mix of days where there a lot of walking and days where we can relax. Dh said that we can take it as easy as I need to.
We won't lose money if we postpone, but I will have to eat up more vacation time since I can't use the freebie day of labor day. Plus I really really need a vacation!
oooh, I love your new siggy. It is booked with southwest, so maybe it can be a touch and go thing. hmmm. good point!
Kit I am sorry you are having such a rough time. I totally believe in signs though! Two rainbows indeed!
Good luck with your trip...I'd wait till last minute if you can.
Thanks girl. ?You sound like my husband...he's totally a signs kinda guy. He can't wait for our u/s on Thursday.?
I'm at 8 weeks and just got back from a girl's weekend in NC - lots of poolside time and relaxing. I'd say if it's a vacation where you can pamper yourself a bit and doesn't require late nights or excessive wandering around, go for it!!! I would've killed for an extra week in the sunshine
My M/S just hit, but I can say so far it's bearable.. and would be more bearable on vacation rather than in the office!
I did go on vacation at 8 weeks and I had horrible m/s.
However, I WOULD recommend it. It was really nice to be able to take it easy instead of trying to soldier through the work day. I slept in, took naps, ate when I felt I could and ate whatever sounded good at that moment.
If you can have that kind of relaxation with your vacation it is great! However, if you're trying to do a lot of sightseeing, travelling, etc. you might want to postpone.

It really depends on how you feel.
I'm almost to 8 weeks right now and I feel perfectly normal. I'd LOVE to go on vacation, lol.
There is unfortunately no advice for me to give. Every woman deals with pregnancy differently. Some are miserable by 8 weeks, some can live with it, and others feel normal. You're probably just going to have to wait and see.

I felt like absolute death at 8 weeks: vomiting quite a bit and hardly able to get off the couch. I would have been miserable on vacation, especially taking a plane. Ugh.
BOXIE! I'm so excited to see you here on 1st Tri. I'm a regular GP lurker, so I'm so happy for you. Congratulations.
I highly recommend taking the vacation. I was in Oahu last week for my week 8 and it was fabulous. I had some morning sickness, but I just took things at my own pace. As long as I had my trusty saltines and could stop for a cold drink I was good to go.
This exactly.
I was on vacation during my 8th week, and it was so wonderful and relaxing that I felt better than I had since morning sickness started!! It was just the break I needed.
Maybe I don't have a heightened sense of smell, but I've never smelled any vagina on my pants. -- TSD
