Babies: 9 - 12 Months

10 month old and refusing baby food and backing off bottle?

My Ds is almost 10 months old. He has within the last week started to refuse all baby food and has been not wanting his bottle that much. He was drinking 4  4-6 oz bottles a day and now he has been drinking less and less at each bottle. Is this a sign that it is time to just do 3 bottles a day?

Also he has been refusing his baby food and will not eat his cereal anymore. I realize that he will eventually not eat baby food anymore but I always worry that he is not getting enough with just his finger foods. He will eat pretty much anything and likes to feed himself but it always seems like when I get him out of his highchair there is a lot of food on his lap and I worry he does not get what he needs. Any advice or thoughts? TIA

  • Drop all of the baby food and give more finger food.  Start a cup and introduce reg milk in the cup this is a great time to start.

I like giving the baby food so that I know how much she is getting too. My DD is small, so it's always something I worry about.

If I give her puffs or cheerios to occupy her, I can feed her from the spoon. Otherwise, she swats the spoon. After she eats the jar, I let her feed other things herself, and don't really worry about how much b/c she already ate enough, kwim?

  • DD has dropped way off the bottle as well.  She is still doing good with purees so I keep it up cause I don't like not knowing how much she is eating with finger foods and how much she is supposed to have.  I feed her purees first then finger foods.  I'm sure I probably only have a few weeks of this left as she will probably start to prefer feeding herself as well.
  • My DD does the same thing. I switched her to all table food and try to get her to drink water from a sippy so she doesn't get dehydrated. She doesn't like the sippy too much though. Meals take a lot longer now, but I let her eat until she doesn't want any more. Curious to see what others have to say.
  • We are in this situation since 10 months. I switched to straw cups (except the early morning feeding) and it takes a lot of time to finish a 6oz cup. I keep offering, and I'm happy to get 12-16oz in him at the end of the day. He eats all finger food, but the amount varies day to day.

This is stressful for me, I find myself counting milk oz all the time now!
