Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Do you bring LO to funerals/visitations?

We are going to a very difficult funeral and visitation this week. DH's cousin (who I've known forever and actually introduced DH and I), his 13-year old step daughter was just taken off life support yesterday. I really want DD with us but I know the line for the visitation will be LONG. Would it be tacky if I wore my ergo? DD is 27 lbs and I just can't hold her for a couple hours. In the past I've gotten a babysitter but this time is different circumstances and I just don't want to be away from her. Sorry I know this is kind of rambling but my head has been spinning since I found out this news.

  • How sad :(

My FIL passed away and they had a long Catholic service (no viewing) and I opted to have the girls stay with a sitter.

  • How awful for that family. I can't even imagine.

I think that you need to get a babysitter, I know you want to have your DD close but I just don't think it is appropriate.

I have to agree w/ this.  This is a situation where you need to put them before you and as hard of a situation as it is, having such a young child there could be distracting and even upsetting to some.

Nothing tacky about wearing your ergo, though.  However, I just don't feel this is the right event to take your DD to.

  • sadly, I've done it both ways.  DD was there for DH's BFF's memorial and my dad's service, but I left her at home for my great-aunt's service.  I did wear my Ergo for DH's friend's memorial, but DH took care of her for my dad's service.  I think it's all up to you.  If you think your LO would be OK in the Ergo for a while, and you want her there, then bring her.  If you think she has the potential to be disruptive or uncooperative, I would find a babysitter.
