Trying to Get Pregnant

Anyone have a transvaginal ultrasound?

I posted last week about possible UTI symptoms. So I went to the doctor on Friday and he told me to see my OBGYN because I had pain in my pelvic area and he thought it was related to my 40+ day cycle (he wasn't interested in my chart-ugh). I went to see the GYN and she is sending me for a transvaginal ultrasound to make sure everything is ok.She doesn't seem concerned but said since we're TTC she wants to be safe.

Does anyone have any advice for me today? I'm getting ready to drink LOTS of water and then try not to pee Smile

Re: Anyone have a transvaginal ultrasound?

  • Everytime I've had one they have me Empty my bladder. I would call if I was you, instead of drinking all that water for nothing. Thats just my thought though =)

  • They actually wanted me to empty my bladder before the u/s.  It was a little uncomfortable but to be very honest it lookes like a big dildo.  They put lube on it and other than being a little uncomfortable nothing too be nervous about!  GL!
  • You might not need to drink lots of water...transvaginal isn't that bad though. Ask the place you're going what they want you to do. There is no sense in drinking lots of water if they don't need you to. I didn't have to have a full bladder for mine. I've had 3 of them though...one to diagnosis PCOS and then 2 for PG related things early on.

  • I did during my first pregnancy.  My advice, make sure your appt is actually your appt.  We were given an appt time and so I drank all that water and we headed over.  I have a tiny bladder to begin with and was nauseas to boot.  Anyway when we arrive, we discover that our appt time was not for the ultrasound but to register for the ultrasound and it was another half hour wait after that.  I was DYING!

Other than that I don't remember any discomfort aside from needing to pee and having an US wand shoved up against your bladder Crying

  • Wow everyone else was so lucky getting to empty their bladder Embarrassed I'm a little jealous
  • It's not bad, just lay back and relax.  Honestly, that's all you can do.

  • I had to go w bladder completly full- it does look like a dildo...not bad except for all the water...but def call and check to see if it needs to be empty or full.

  • I've had more than I care to admit, and will be getting one today as well.

It's really no big thing - and it gives your dr. a good starting look into how your organs look.  GL!

  • I forgot to add that in addition to the transvaginal I also have the traditional abdominal ultrasound as well. I think all the water is for the abdominal. I'm hoping that I can just relax when I get there since I tend to anxious about medical tests anyway.

    Thanks for the advice.

This is what they did with me. You want a full bladder for the abdominal so they can see everything then you get up and pee and then they do the transvaginal. I had to pee so bad for the abdominal so that was really uncomfortable since they have to push a little but quick.
