I just can't find anything remotely cute or endearing about this character. My SIL (who has a DD who is 6 and a DS who is 4) swears by ELMO and tells me that I absolutely have to get my girls into him. Ummm, why? Every ELMO character I have seen at birthday parties is freakin creepy. I find his voice (on Sesame Street) totally annoying as well. Am I just an Elmo grinch? (LOL) I seriously have no desire to push this obsession at all. They own nothing of Elmo and I like that. LOL
Re: Ok, is it me or does anyone else find ELMO annoying?
Clearly I have a thing for the muppets and I can't wait until DD is old enough for Sesame Street. But that said, Elmo can definitely be over the top annoying!
All the toddlers I know eat him up. But he is based on a three year old, so that's probably why he appeals so much to the very young.
Aw muppet fan---I am sorry! I did NOT mean to offend or insult those that like him. (Not that you sounded offended, but just want you to know)
I did not know that he was based on a 3 year old. That explains A LOT!!! LOL
I love Elmo, but I see no reason why we need to get our kids into any characters... why not just see what characters they like?
E hasnt seen much TV, very little in fact, but he is currently drawn to more disney than anything else. I am little mermaid obsessed, (I sing part of your world as part of our bedtime routine! lol) and he will watch Flounder's scenes, but he really isn't into the rest. He likes the live action parts of Sesame Street and in fact he seems to prefer the live action. I guess I want him to make his own choice about liking something!
My daughter, luckily, loves DJ Lance Rock (Yo Gabba Gabba) and while some find that show annoying, I find it AWESOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEE! LOL
I dont like elmo either. However, my mom got DS an elmo live for christmas (yes he was a month old) and it is kind of funny. We are not going to turn into elmo fanatics but I dont mind having the one toy. I personally prefer cookie monster!!
I am not really into characters. He can have toys of whatever he wants but I am not the type to get winnie the pooh bedding or stuff like that. I am certainly not going to push one character over another, he can decide what he likes.

I was thinking this exact thing the other day...and luckily, although the boys have shown that they LOVE yo gabba gabba, they have NO interest in elmo...they have watched sesame street a few times, but elmo just doesn't do it for em at this time..i hope it stays that way.
I loved sesame street and the muppets growing up, but it is so different now..elmo totally dominates it. there is a show on sprout called something abotu sesame street play with me or something, and it shows old stuff, i loved watching that with them.
i am so glad that the boys really could not care too much abotu any show other that yo gabba gabba..we all enjoy watching that together
