I realize that my guys are pretty young based on their adjusted age, but does anyone have tips to help them learn to sit up? They can hold their heads up now. I try putting them in the sittng position for a little while each day and see if they can stay for a few seconds which they can, also use the boppy to help a litlte. Anything else?
Also they were 29 weekers so it reasonable to assume they would be able to sti up around 7-8 months actual or is that too early?
Re: Tips for learning to sit up?
Robbie sat up about 8 months adjusted..
As for a tip, do they lean forward and start to topple over? If so, try the boppy in front of them (with the opening at the back) so they can support themselves on it. That was what finally did the trick for Robbie.

Yes! Good idea, will definitely try that, thanks!
Logan was born at 28 weeks and sat up at 8 months actual. Our PT said to use the Bumbo and we also would give him a ball in between his legs to lean on and play with (it was one of those that you press a button and lights up/plays music). Oh, and I second the tummy time for strong abs!

the physical therapist at our NICU follow-up last week suggested exactly this. DS kept getting distracted by his feet and this helped a ton!
Cameron only just learned to sit up at 16mos old actual, but Evan still won't even try to get on his belly to push up. They were 28wks6days.
I've found the best thing is to A)keep doing tummy time
use the bumbo and boppy several times a day C) use a yoga ball and have t he baby sit on top with your hands on the hips and waist and practice tipping in all directions slowly as well as gentle bouncing up and down - this was/is the best for my guys who were seriously delayed in this area. And finally D) my all time favorite learning to sit toy is the FP Superstar Sing-Along Stage. This toy single handedly got my boys interested in sitting up for long periods of time and learn to lean forward. And the best part is that while they are playing with the toy you can put your hands under their bottom and carefully tip the baby in different directions requiring them to use their trunk muscles, neck muscles, and arms to catch themselves and learn to balance. I bought mine for $16 at a Moms of Multiples yard sale and while it was missing the microphone we still love this as one of our favorite toys.
Good luck, hope this helps.
Oh! I must chime in about the Sing Along Stage, too. I definitely agree.
Actually, Laura posted about hers and I was considering it.. mentioned it to a friend of mine, sent her to Laura's blog.. My friend went with her suggestion, then emailed me and said YOU HAVE TO BUY ONE, so I did, and man, it did a wonder of good for Robbie, too.
Same basic concept as the boppy in front. It's higher up and they can lean on it. It also has flashing lights at the top which had Robbie riveted. I think he was so enthralled with the thing that he forgot he was sitting up. *LOL*

I also recommend the Fisher Price Superstar Sing Along Stage toy. ?Keira LOVED it and I truly think it gave her the motivation she needed to stay in a seated position. ?I think it retails for $50 or so, but it is worth every penny IMO!
We also used the yoga ball just as lstaylor described above as per our therapist's suggestion and really saw improvement with her core strength.
