CDing help! Starting to research...

There are SO many CDing sites I dont know where to start and what's really credible.

My main question though is what is the LEAST amount of each size of cloth diapers (and liners and other accessories I may need) I can get away with purchasing right now? (I have about 200 NB disposable diapers that I was planning to use up before I started CDing). I know it will save me tons of money in the long run, but I want to slowly build my stash because I have zero income right now and no money saved up but I really want to CD. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

  • I found the tutorial on Jillians Drawers and the information on www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com to be really informative. ?The best way to build a stash is to buy a little at a time - that way you don't have to put down tons of money all at once! ?Also, you can rent the newborn diapers. ?I think it is sunshine diapers that does a newborn size kissaluv rental - and then you get to reuse your deposit to buy bigger sized diapers when the rental is over. ?Most folks recommend prefolds for the newborn stage because they grow out of newborn size diapers so quickly. ?Other than that - if you want to wash every other day they say you need 24 diapers, but I've found that about 30 works better for washing every other day (sometimes your child will dirty a diaper more often than every two hours, so having some extras on hand is good).

  • Here's a good site to start with: https://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/basics.htm

If you plan on washing every other day, I'd say your bare minimum will be 36 or so newborn diapers (they pee/poop constantly - we changed every half hour I swear). For a little older baby who doesn't poop with each feeding you could probably get by with two dozen - athough you may run out at times if you get behind on the laundry.

If you're going for cheap your best option will be prefolds with covers. You can use covers more than once before washing (we use 2 a day usually). You can get Little Lions brand prefolds second quality (minor cosmetic flaws) for $13/doz for the infant size or $6/doz for preemie. (https://little-lions.com/page50.html). Thirsties covers run about 10-12$ (they have the new Duo covers that come in size 1 and size 2 and last til potty training - about $12.50 each). (try abbyslane.com or momsmilkboutique.com - free shipping)

  • And don't be afraid of buying used diapers.  You'll save a lot of money that way!!  Keep an eye on your local Craigslist.
