i have a beco, which is very very similar to the ergo, and it works great with a newborn. the main difference between the beco/ergo is that there's fabric between you and the baby (so it makes switching baby from person to person a lot easier). this lends itself to the design of the infant insert (built in, so doesn't have to be purchased separately), which is basically just letting the newborn sit up higher.

i LOVE my beco and wouldn't trade it for the world. i wear henry all the time, and he's the world's least snuggly baby.

And the Beco has places for their feet so they can sit vertical and their legs don't have to go around you. I tried this carrier too and it was really comfy.
