Trying to Get Pregnant

anyone tried the "sperm meets egg plan"? SMEP?

Two of my close friends tried this plan and it worked for them on the first month ttc. It looks like common sense, but with more details. The research collected since 1999 shows it increases your chance of getting pg by 40% (instead of 20% each month).

Anyone else tried it or heard of it? Thoughts?

Here is the link to the detailed plan:

  • I tell you what I dislike about that website - that 40% business. This statement doesn't appear to be backed up by any solid research, and I think it can give false hope. Or make people feel worse when they don't get KU.

Statistics coming in from women who write me show that about 40% of post-miscarriage women will get pregnant on the first try if they are faithful to the plan, about double the number of the normal population who are not on the plan.

  • Wow...even being on cycle 9, I don't know if I'm ready for that structured and systematic of a conception plan (although I am not ttc after a m/c).  I think "knowing" that you need to have sex every other day or whatever puts a lot of pressure on both parties.  I know DH is very excited to start a family, but I also know that I don't tell him when the *best* time is to have sex because he starts to feel pressured and nervous.  I would rather take it a bit more naturally and have sex when the mood strikes us.  Coincidentally, for this cycle it has worked that it's been just about every other day, but it's not always that way.

I agree with that as well Cathy.

  • I also agree that the 40% seems like a random number to pull out about success rate. That could be based on 3 letters she got that were successful. And it does seem expensive..the opk strips, the digital tests, etc.

The part that intrigued me is the part about keep bd later than you think in case you o later than you think or have a false o/surge. It has some useful info in there, but you really have to pick it out from the rest.

I guess it is worth a try...it couldn't hurt to bd that much.

  • I didn't click the link, but if that 40% is for women who are TTC after a miscarriage, then those are women that know they are able to get pregnant without medical intervention.  (I hope that doesn't sound like I think that's some sort of consolation.)
  • I think it sounds good and also common sense.  We try every other day at a minimum and sometimes do every day.  I do chart, but I also believe that charting is not 100% accurate - you can ovulate before or after FF says you do so I like to cover my bases by at least doing it every other night.
  • LOL I give props to all you ladies that can do it that much.  On a 2nd thought, since you may become pregnant quickly... live it up while you still can!

    I forgot to mention:

I think there might be something in what they warn about online pregnancy tests. When I was unknowingly pregnant, I tested with an
onine pee on a stick tests 9 dpo neg, 12 dpo neg.

When I was 4 days late for my period I bought a non digital first response test and it showed a BFP. I asked my dr. why that happened and he said either the test were no good or the egg floated around, delayed implanting.

Knowing me, I will use the same online tests again while TTC beause I have a huge stash of them!  However this time when I get the double BFN I am continuing with the prenatals and not drinking like its mardi gras!
  • Piecesoflare good point.  I just couldn't wait. I was so freaking excited to know.  I didn't realize at 12 dpo that its still really early even with the early response tests.  I'm wiser now and won't test until I am 3 days late for my period. JK!

Yeah, that's essentially what we have been doing for 16 months. Good call on that 40% plan.

    Yes
