sleep issues after removing bumper?

I should start by saying that DD has always been the best sleeper at night... has STTN since she was about 2 months old.

We've always used a bumper in DD's crib - until recently she hasn't moved around a whole lot so I didn't see the reason for taking it out yet.  Anyway, about a week ago I decided it was time for the bumper to come out.  Since the night I took it out, she has woken up a few times each night... there's nothing wrong with her (she hasn't hit her head, gotten a limb stuck through, needed a diaper change, etc.).  She just cries... even after we come to get her it takes awhile to get her settled down.  I don't understand why she's waking up so upset.  The ONLY change is that the bumper is no longer there.

Did anyone else have any issues with their child's sleep patterns after removing the crib bumper??  Any other ideas that you can think of that might be causing this change in behavior?

Re: sleep issues after removing bumper?

  • Yes, when he started rolling we took the bumper out. I put it back in within a few days b/c it did disturb his sleep!

If your DD can move on her own, I am sure it will be fine. I don't worry about it too much b/c DS moves around so much at night. I know he can move away from it if he had to.

  • Thanks!  I guess that must be it.  After a long night last night I finally put the bumper back in - she's still asleep now.  :)

  • He started rolling at 5-6 months I took the bumper out because he would sleep with his face scrunched up to it. I bought a breathable bumper at BRU for like 25 bucks. He hits his head on it at night every now and then but it doesnt wake him up. and when he smashes his face against it Im ok with it.
