Help a total newbie choose a CD option...

I posted on 6-12 earlier today and got a lot of helpful tips and all of the ladies there suggested that I post here as well.  DD is already 10 months, but I'm considering switching to cloth diapers and am having a hard time sorting through all of the information!  Where would you recommend starting?  I've been browsing through Jillian's Drawers today and the program they offer with a "trial" of a bunch of different diapers looks like a good starting point.  Any other tips/suggestions for a newbie?  How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry?  I'm sure I'll have more questions along the way, but TIA for your help!

  • I would go with the trial to see what you like. We have way more diapers than we need and I wash every 3-4 days. I would say for a baby you LO's age you could get by with 24 diapers, washing every 2-3 days. Try tallying ever time you change a diaper for the next 3 days and go from there.?We like Pfs and fitteds with wool as the cover. We also have a variety of pockets that are easy for nighttime, quick changes and the grandparents.?

  • Absolutely do the trial!  It's the best way to see what you like and what works and what doesn't.

  • We did the Jillian's trial and I highly recommend it.  That way you'll get your hands on the different types of diapers as well as brands.  You'll get a better understanding of them and what you think you might like to use in the future.  I'd hate for you to invest in a bunch of diapers and then they not work for your LO.

Do you have any cloth diaper stores near you?

  • Def. do the trial.  CDing is a really individual thing ... there isn't a single diaper out there that works for every baby.

  • I posted on Friday that I made a compilation packet of all the CDing info that I know of.  It's 5 pages long, but it organizes things pretty nicely.  Email me if you want the Word file.  (remove the numbers) 2linz4carron6@8gmail.com
  • Definitely try Jillian's.  We started CDing a month ago when DD was 11 months old.  I did it thinking that DH would freak on me and I would be sending them all back.  We tried everything, and the diaper I thought I would love was not for us.  It helped me discover which type of diaper I liked more and which types were a definite no.  I sent some back and ordered other brands of the types that work for us from other websites.  I am so happy with the decision to switch and wish I would have done it 5 months or more ago.  Jillian's takes the risk out of trying it out.  Wishing you luck and I hope you find the perfect system for your DD.
