We are having a party tomorrow - about 32 people. My brother just told me that SIL is making wings and beef sticks (literally beef on a stick that I never eat but her wings are good) and he has venison and might make flounder (really fluke that he caught) parmisean.) Sounds great except
1. that I already have a ton of food and I have a plan on how to make all of it and keep it hot.
2. They already asked weeks ago if I needed them to make anything and I said no that I have it covered
3. A few days ago my brother asked if we were using both grills b/c he wanted to make venison and I told him yes we were using both and that he could use it after we are done if he wanted but that I already told DH he is only allowed (lol) to make hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill b/c I do not want to worry about a ton of food on the grills when we have so much else to worry about and my example was wings.
I know they are trying to help but it is only making more work and we already have pulled pork, baked ziti, swedish meatballs and sausage peppers and onions plus hot dogs and hamburgers and salads. And DH is going to be so annoyed b/c I already gave him crap that I did not want to put more food on the grill! I am just hoping that when we get back I do not have to feed DD so that I can help throw things on the grill and tell my brother that he can use it after the hot dogs and hamburgers are done! I DO NOT want DH stuck at the grill all freaking day b/c my brother thinks that it is ok to just come over and throw food on the grill in the middle of my daughter's Baptism.
Oh, and did I mention that I would not touch venison with a 10 foot pole and hate that he hunts...ok, I am not judging other hunters but it grosses me out.
Feel free to tell me I am making a big deal out of nothing or if this would annoy you but I just think that if you plan on cooking food for a Baptism the least you can do is ask if the host wants it and if they have the means to heat it. Oh, and he said he can just use a sterno for the fish but I am not using sternos b/c I am paranoid and do not want kids around them even though I grew up around them just fine - we are using crock pots, chafing dishes, an electric oven thing, etc. And I felt to bad to say no since they already make the freaking food.
Ok, I am off to finish getting ready.
Re: Can I be ungrateful about "helpful" people for a minute
Wouldn't bother me...but that IS a lot of food for only 32 people. We have parties all the time (usually about 60 people) so I know how much work goes into organizing and planning where the food will go etc. There are always about 10 people who bring food. We just put it all out and what gets eaten does and what doesn't doesn't. One year we had hamburgers, hotdogs, grilled chicken and then a friend decided to roast a turkey, debone it and brought it in a roaster! Like we needed that much more meat!
Maybe suggest your brother and SIL have a party so they can make all that stuff. lol
