HSG.. really that bad??

I'm having an HSG done next week.. I've heard and read really bad things about it, how painful it is etc.   Is it really that bad?  I would love to hear from anyone who thought it wasn't that bad!

Re: HSG.. really that bad??

  • Honestly it just all depends.  Sometimes it's awful, sometimes it's not too bad.  I hope it's pain free for you!

  • mine was not bad at all. a little discomfort during the procedure, like a lot of pressure with a little cramping. after i felt fine, light cramps the rest of the day and that was it. good luck and i hope your hsg will be pain free.

  • mine was absolutely.horrible.  I pray its not bad for you at all.
  • Mine was, but I have a tilted uterus so they had to pull on it to get a clear pic. I hope yours goes easy and painless!

  • Mine wasn't bad at all. The only thing I had wished I'd known beforehand is that they send you home wearing a pad. Wouldn't have worn white pants if I had been warned about that ahead of time. Good luck!

  • It really depends on the person, but I had absolutely no pain with mine.  The only thing I felt at all was the speculum, I didn't feel the catheter or dye at all - I didn't even realize she had done anything yet and then she said it was over.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • Mine wasn't bad at all.  More mild than AF cramps
  • For some it's really painful, but others don't feel anything at all. Mine was fine except for about 30 seconds of intense pain, then it was over. I honestly wouldn't be scared to do it again if I had to. (hugs)
  • Thank you to everyone for sharing your experiences!!
  • For me, it was bad while it lasted. The good news is that it was over very quickly. As soon as the doctor took everything out, I felt as good as new. I would recommend taking a couple of Advil or Tylenol before you go. It takes the edge off. GL!

Agreed......and this is the short version of my experience.  Actually, I had a blocked tube that was corrected the next day.  It really was bad for me..and I am not fooling around.

    Good luck to you.

  • OMG I have NEVER felt pain like I did with the HSG... and I mean NEVER.  I almost came off that damn table.  Then they say roll to the right/left - holy Sh*t it was all I could do to breathe.

Then - I hear of girls who have nothing more than AF cramps.  Just take some good pain killers before you go to be on the safe side!

  • I knew they were putting in the speculum and a minute or two later they were done. I felt nothing.

  • I had mine a week ago and it was pretty uncomfortable. Thankfully, it's very quick so it didn't hurt for very long. I did bleed afterward though, along with the leakage of the dye, so take a pad along with you.

  • Mine wasn't that bad. Not nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. There was probably 30 seconds or so of some really intense pain but that was it. I wouldn't want to do it again but if I had to, it wouldn't be a big deal.

I felt exhausted afterward and it only last 5 minutes.

  • It's not bad at all. ?They give you novocaine, and once you get over the THOUGHT of what they're doing down there, you realize that it doesn't hurt one bit. ?You'll be fine. ?Just close your eyes, remember to breath, and remind yourself that it's for a very good cause.

    ?

    :)?
