DH and I usually go camping in Michigan in the summer - its always been one of our favorite get aways. We decided not to go this summer b/c I was afraid I would be too miserable/big/hot and didn't want to travel in the 3rd trimester.
Now I just can't stop thinking how much I really want to go baby free one last time and that even if I am miserable I might regret not taking this chance. I will of course talk to my OB, but what do you guys think about traveling/camping at 34-36 weeks? Am I nuts?
*Edit - It's about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs from home.
Re: I may be nuts - camping in the next couple of weeks? WDYT?

O crap - I forgot about that! Maybe we could go the same area but stay in a hotel...
I agree with pp, it would just depend. But probably not.
There would have to be a bathroom. And I wouldn't sleep on the ground at this point, just the idea of that makes my back hurt.
I was invited to campinng a couple of weeks ago but I declined because: 1. Camping for me is not fun anymore 2. I need 4 pillows to sleep comfortably 3. I'm too tired to sleep on the floor.
But if you feel good, your OB says it is ok and you enjoy it, go!
Haha - sorry I should have specified. I have no intentions of sleeping on the ground, there would be a very large air matress involved and likely a fan.
We are planning to go in a couple of weeks too and our usual spot is about 2 hours away. My only concern is going to the bathroom. I decided to look into a portable toilet because I was worried that I wouldn't be able to squat without falling over. Luckily REI has one that is inexpensive and will do just fine for short camping trips.
We use an air mattress so I am not worried about that. The only thing I am thinking about that is that I may have a difficult time getting up from it. Otherwise I don't see a problem with camping.
I probably would not go that far away that late in my pregnancy. Maybe you could find somewhere within and hour to hour and a half that you could go to and stay in a hotel.?
I am not a camper - but I know the amount of times I have to pee and also the fact of sleeping in a tent on the ground - I can barely get up from the floor when I sit down there with the dog.
I would plan a getaway that will be more confortable and not as far if you want to get away before the baby.?

I did it at 34 weeks. If I didn't have to deal with a spazzy toddler I think it would have been a lot more fun...but because I did, I was a bit of a grump the whole time.
