oh ya, we visited my great aunt there a few years back. the weather is a bit nicer there. we've been having 112 weather. ahhh. i feel like the heats gonna cook my big ole belly
ahhhh ycuk 112 and i thought our 106 was bad everyone told us we didn't need a/c when we moved here, so we're renting a house without it...damn them hahaha
ugh you poor thing, i can't imagine being pregnant in this heat

I had no idea it got that hot in Portland! We visited there a few years ago (Canon Beach/ Manzanita Beach I think it was...) and I remember it being very cool and windy in July. I loved it and wanted to move there :-)

trust me, we had no idea as well!! what we've learned since moving here is that the locals like to beef up the coolness/rain/cloudyness to prevent more people from moving in. granted yes it will be gray and cloudy from september - april basically and definitely rainy...but the summers are gorgeous. just wish someone had told me that before! also if you're on the coast...cannon beach area...it's about 20 degrees cooler than in portland. we discovered that the hard way...my parents were here and we wanted to take a day trip to the beach...i was all in my bathing suit and sundress and we got there and it was 60 degrees..lol

Do you at least have window units? Ugghhh!! I've lived w/o ac before (in college- we just stopped turning it on b/c we'd have $600 electric bills and the thermostat would stay in the 90s-100s!). It sucks!! Ceiling fans, box fans (we carried ours from room to room with us and just plugged it in directly in front of us!!), and at least 1 window unit will help A LOT!!
ETA: I like your name!!
After 3 1/2 years of hope and prayers, our sweet baby girl is here!

ughh yeah we actually just installed a window a/c in our bedroom so that's been helping us to at least sleep at night...the rest of the rooms have fans...DUMB heat!

I sooo want to move to Portland. I'm in MD now and just so sick of this area. I love the NW. It gets really bad here in the summer too but this summer has been pretty mild. Watch I say that now and it will come to bite me in the a**
So tell me more about Portland and what you love about it. Any dislikes so far? Where did you move from? That's the only thing I'm worried about is being so far from everyone else.

i moved from michigan and trust me, my big concern is the distance too...(more on that later)
i've only been here about a month so i may not be the best judge...talk to me in 6 months and i'll give you more of an update...but for now...here's what i love/hate:
loves:
- green green green....and i mean this in a literal sense and in a EFF sense. there are trees and plans EVERYWHERE and it's all so GREEN. granted this week with the heat our grass has gotten a little brown...but mostly everything is just lush and green. love that. AND everywhere you go there are opportunities to recycle, etc. some restaurants even have compost bins for you to stick your leftover food in. it's just awesome.
- the people are amazing. compared to michigan everyone is just so nice. an example i've been using is that dh and i went to the post office and there was a HUGE line and it was almost closing time. i got to the counter and the lady noticed that i had a dog and cat on my visa card. she said how cute it was and how she loved animals. we started having a conversation about dogs for like 5-10 minutes...if this happened in MI the people in line behind me would have flipped a lid. people are just "chill" here and it's great. people say hi to you when you're out for a walk, people comment on how they like your purse, etc...it's just friendlier.
- it's crazy pet friendly here and seeing as i have 4 pets this is a huge bonus. there's even some bars that allow pets. lots of stores do, too.
- tons of health food stores. tons. tons of food co-op stores too. and TONS of opportunities for CSAs as well if you're into that
- unlimited amount of outdoorsy things to do...mt. hood is just about an hour away....tons of hiking everywhere...there's great gardens....kayaking...the coast is an hour and a half away...etc etc etc
- brewery after brewery after brewery. i thought i hated beer before coming here....i've only tried 3 different microbrews since being here and i loved them all...it will turn any non-beer drinker into a beer drinker.
- very vegetarian/vegan friendly. basically all restaurants we've been to so far have a veggie or vegan option on their menu...and we've even been to some restaurants who serve only local, free range meat (which is the reason i dont eat meat in the first place..because of how the animals are treated)
hate:
- the distance to my family and friends. all of our family (well most of it) is back in michigan. just the thought of having a kid out here breaks my heart. i NEED my mom there when i have a kid. DH's law school is only 3 years...and if we haven't convinced my parents to move out here yet by then, we'll definitely be moving somewhere within driving distance to them...it's just too important to me to have family around...DH isn't close with his family, but i am. BUT if i can convince my sister and my parents to move out here, then we'll stay out here for good. our home is 36 hours driving away. ugh.
- plane tickets home are expensive. (at least to MI anyway)....and you pretty much can't fly direct unless you want to spend $500+ per ticket. the cheapest flight i've found so far is $230 and that was for the month of october.
- this is so not that big of a deal but there are 2 poisonous spiders out here and we had none back in michigan. one is the hobo and one is the black widow...black widows are so very rare here though, so that doesnt bother me and the hobo is also not super common, and even if it bites the chance of it releasing venom is only 50%...and even so it won't kill you. so not a big deal at all.
phew that's it. if you have any other questions let me know or you can always email me dajelly at gmail dot com

Daisies are my favorite flower, too!! I pph them!! Sorry about the heat. I've so done the window unit thing in several places I've lived (and I'm in the south, so I totally get the heat thing!!). It completely stinks.
::::cool down vibes:::::

Thanks for typing all of that out! I just read it to DH since he's the one that isn't as convinced. He did perk up about the brewery and the pet thing since he is obsessed with our bulldog and wants to take her everywhere
I think our next step is to take a long vacation out there (I've been and he's been on business) and really get the feel for the area.
