I know when I was researching my stash and preparing to CD I loved threads like these. I obviously have limited experience here but so far here's what I think.
I love the KL0s - they definitely hold all that runny NB poop. They are also easy enough for DH to do with no problems and even my Mom, who was hesitant to change a baby much less to use a cloth diaper, found them easy. I tend to notice that when other people change the baby they don't put the diaper on tight enough but I think that's just them being overly cautious.
When I'm doing the changing I love prefolds. Seriously LOVE them. I'm using the angel wing and bikini twist folds a lot, think I prefer bikini twist because again it is great for containment. I've also just thrown a prefold in a cover folded in thirds and that also works great. DH won't reach for a prefold but he does like the trimness of them and thinks the snappi is the coolest thing ever.
We're using cloth wipes and for now just water to clean her bum. No signs of any rash or anything like that so I think we're keeping up with the diaper changes just fine at this point. It's a lot of work but luckily baby girl farts like a fog horn so we have pretty good clues as to when to change her. She also tends to hiccup when wet (this we finally realized last night).
I'm a little disappointed that the only covers that work really well for us right now are the Bummis - the super bright is better than the other one (can't remember the name) in terms of fit. I have some Lite Wraps that are supposed to fit right now by weight but the rise is way to high. And I have an Imse Vimse wool cover in small that is also too big, which is a bummer b/c I'd really like to let baby girl's bum breathe.
And shockingly, to me, we've been cloth diapering since coming home from the hospital Tuesday and no one has reached for the BG XS AIO. I looked at it this morning and thought to myself I'd rather have a prefold.
Re: My thoughts on CD a newborn 1 week in
I am so happy for you!
With the Lite Wrap you can snap at the base and then rotate/turn the flaps just a bit to get a better fit. They will also get better as she gets a bit bigger. They do run quite big.
