NBR- If you were running in your first 10k and DH didn't go...

SIL is running in her first 10k, the biggest race in our state and BIL isn't going (she does want him there). He decided that he'd rather be out on the boat drinking with friends. I would be livid. I know that DH would definitely be there to support me though. Just seems strange to me...

  • I'd be mad too, but running is very important to both DH and I. I think it's pretty rude, considering it's something you train for, get excited for, are so proud of yourself when you're done...why wouldn't a DH want to be there for his wife on her big day? Sounds kind of jerky.

  • Wow.

I wanted to run a marathon but wasn't sure I could do it alone. DH signed up and ran every step with me...even though it meant he'd have to stay on the course for 90 min. longer than it would've taken him to run it alone. ?That's really sad that he won't even show up for her...hopefully he'll get a clue if the rest of your family turns out to support her. :(?

  • Yes, I would think your DH would be there for such a big accomplishment.  I would be mad

  • I would be sad.  I don't go to all dh's races but I was there for his first 5K, 2 half marathons and 1 full.  I'm sure she worked hard and he should be there to recognize her accomplishment.
  • DH goes to almost all of my races. He skips them once and awhile now if he had to work the night before (he's a cop) and it's just a 5k or something. Sounds like BIL is a turd.
  • I would be mad! I just set a goal for myself to run in the NJ Marathon in May - and the first though that went through my mind was of DH & DS waiting for me @ the finish line
  • I would be ticked beyond belief.  Sounds like her DH doesn't value her accomplishments or her interests.  He seems selfcentered.  Is she upset?  Or is this par for the course?

It's par for the course. She said that she hopes he will be there in October for her first half marathon. I hope he is!

  • I'd be mad if he missed any major event/accomplishment in my life. But if he was the type to do that, we wouldnt be married.
