1st Trimester

Well, it happened

Remember last night when someone posted about people touching bellies already? And another post where we were talking about showing early, but alas most of us just have bloat?  Well, saw MIL today for the first time since we told them over a video call that I am pregnant.  It took her a long time to say anything about the pregnancy (which was weird for her).  But then sure enough, she reaches over and PATS my tummy and says, "Oh, you are already getting your tummy!"  I was like, "Nope, just gas and bloating...and fat.  But thanks."

UGH.

Re: Well, it happened

  • yeah, we went to visit DH's gradparents a couple weeks ago and his gma was rubbing my belly and talking to it. kinda weird considering i was only like 7.5 weeks

And mention something along the lines of how you have x months left, she doesn't need to start dressing/acting/looking like a grandma just yet.

    ...When did I get grumpy?

  • LOL that sucks.  I dread people leaning in to touch my fat.  Sorry about that :(

  • When I was pregnant with my first, my MIL bent over and looked up my shirt when I was 7-8 months pregnant...I almost lost it on her. I just left. This time I will make it very clear to stay away from my stomach!

OH MY !!! I can't even begin to compare with that!  I would have barfed on her head.

  • A few weeks ago, it was a Monday and I was walking to my machine (I'm a seamstress) and one of my co-workers stops me and pats me on the belly and asks "How are you? How is the baby doing?" At the time, I was about 6 weeks. I was a tad perplexed at the time wondering why she wants to pat my belly fat. I almost wanted to say "can you massage my back while you're at it?" Wink
  • Are people really that stupid? I mean, someone who's been a mother should know that you're not showing that early.

And telling someone that they're "already getting a belly" at 7 weeks is NOT a compliment. Unless they're having quadruplets or something.

  • Only my best friends know I am pg, and the one hadnt seen me since I found out. She came over last night and immediately touched my belly and was like, "ohhhh, theres a little bump!" I had to tell her that was just my gut and that I hadnt even gained a pound yet! I think she was a little embarrassed and I just felt like an even bigger bloated pg lady! Why do people think thats ok, even close friends?!?!
