Baby Showers

Door prizes?

Do people do this for baby showers or just bridal showers? When I got married my mom asked my bridesmaids to each bring a gift basket for a door prize and we drew names, or had numbers on the favors, I forget which one. Do you do this for a baby shower? We are NOT having any games. TIA.

Re: Door prizes?

  • This may be regional - I've never heard of it for bridal or baby showers.

  • if you're having favors I wouldn't worry about it.

we're playing one game - baby bingo - so I did get some prizes for the winners of that, but nothing fancy

if you don't have favors, I guess I would get door prizes

  • Most of the showers I've been to have had them...even though they also played games.  If you aren't playing games I'd definitely have door prizes.  At one shower it was the flowered centerpieces.  Another one had baskets which included lottery tickets.  Most of the showers I've been to that have played games only had one door prize (I suppose because they gave nice gifts as prizes for the games).
  • At my shower they did door prizes for guests who brought diapers.

  • A group my friends always makes gift baskets as bigger gifts for all showers.  We've all had them at our bridal and baby showers.  We aren't having games at my shower either so i'm gonna pull random books (instead of diapers) to see who wins them.  I think there are 6 baskets right now.  I have to figure out how to give away the centerpieces too.  My local florist gave us a sweet deal on roses so there will be a dozen fresh rose centerpieces to give away too.  I like the idea of numbering the favors.  Maybe i'll mention that.  We're doing a sweets/candy buffet with take out boxes so maybe the bottom of them could be numbered.

For my shower, my sister and my mom bought favors for each guest - 4 mini bottles of OPI nailpolish packaged together.  They also have a door prize for each guest....things like Bath & Body (a lotion and a spray, for example), room diffusers, decorative stuff for houses.  There was a big debate if each guest would get a door prize and then overbuying gave them the answer - everyone will get one.  Last baby shower I went to each guest got Jordan Almonds and a door prize, ie. cookie cutters.

  • I read a really good idea about door prizes.... have everyone address an envelope for your thank you cards and draw those for prizes!
  • we did it ot keep the flow of the party moving since I only agreed to 1 cutesy baby game.  Plus we had over 75 people and there were more activites for the guys than girls which was fine because the girls chatted and looked at my DH's and I baby pictures etc.

so we had door prizes every 1/2 hour.  we got cheap stuff from Bath and body works and we also gave out bottles of wine and gift cards.  I provided all of this not the host.
