I just want to let you ladies know that when you pack for the hospital make sure to take lots of diapers. The hospital I delivered at supplied diapers but they were huge on my son. I ended up using all the ones I took. Just thought I would let you know.
Re: Advice from an experience mom
The hospital diapers always fit our guys. In fact, they were actually on the snug side. Ours weighed 8 lbs. 14 oz and 9 lb. 2 oz. so of course I doubt the diapers would be snug on other babies, but I'm thinking most should be able to use the newborn size that hospitals typically supply.
If the diapers were really big, it seems like the hospital could have supplied the ones they use for preemies or something!
I delivered my last DD at Lutheran General in Park Ridge Illinois, she was 7lbs2ozs, the hospital had pampers size 1, I never thought to ask for anything smaller - they worked and then we went home and used the newborn ones we bought and saved the size 1's until she was bigger. HTH !

the hospital i delivered at at a million and one huggies newborn with the cut for the umbilical cord. they were amazing.
they sent me home with about 75 diapers.
i would say most people don't need anything for the baby except a car seat, an outfit and a baby book if they want.
My advice would be the exact opposite. Don't take any! And take home as many as they'll let you. Most hospitals carry newborn size.
Sorry to stomp on your advice, but we were always provided with exactly what we needed while at the hospital, and then some.
Oh yeah...those were the best.
