Cries, what should I do?

We're dog sitting for a friend this weekend and we found fleas on her, lots of them. We flea combed her and washed her and are putting organic stuff on her, but now we found one on our dog. DH wants to get an exterminator but I'm worried about chemicals around me. GAH, so annoyed.

Re: Cries, what should I do?

  • They are probably in your carpet now so you will have to get your house fogged. Sad  Are either of the dogs on Advantix, frontline plus, or something of the sort?

If not you need to get them on it right away so the fleas on them die and the eggs and larve are killed.

Then, you probably need to find a place to stay for a night while your house gets fogged.

We have an exterminator due to where we live and all the critters (roaches) that are prevalent. Anyway, I just make sure I'm outside and take the dogs with me and wait 30-60 minutes before going back in when everything is dry

  • My dogs are on organic flea stuff and heart worm pills (the only time they've had a flea on them was when they picked up one from the vet, gross I know, we switched vets and haven't had a problem since). We called our friends and they say their dog is on Advantax, she's been here 24 hours though and we found like over 20 on her. We then checked our dogs and found 1 on the one's tail. I think I know what happened, they had neighbors that left their dogs in their yard for a week while they went to Vegas and one dog died and the other was all alone, so my friends washed the other dog and took care of it for a couple of hours until help could be found for the dog, I'm thinking their act of kindness may have gotten their dog fleas.
  • Fleabusters, it works really well and its non toxic. My DD and I did not have to leave the house when the fleabusters tech came out. It was totally worth it because fleas seem to love to bite me so I was being tortured.

Do you recall how much it was by any chance?

Did the dog die because they left it without any care?  If so, I think the ASPCA should be called.

My friend was going to call but the family had their inlaws remove the body. The dog was 12 years old? So I don't know if the vet will report it, it was a horrible situation. They left the dogs with access to a non-AC shed, for a week, in the summer, in FL. They should be thrown in jail IMHO.

I would tell her to call for sure.  That is crazy.  Isn't it funny that people have enough money to go to Vegas, but not enough to either board their dogs or at least find a friend for them to stay with.

What's worse is they have 4 kids, the kids were with the inlaws but they didn't care enough about the dogs to even board them.

  • Ok, so we bathed and flea combed the crap out of our friends' dog and put Sentry Natural Defense on all of them and bought a flea spray for the outdoors. DH doesn't want to have any chemicals inside the house b/c of me, anyone know if Salt works inside the house? Also is it bad if he sprays bug killer in the back yard, could the dogs bring in chemical contamination after it dries? I'm freaked b/c I realized I weeded the lawn last weekend after he fertilized it barehanded so I'm worried LO will come out with a 3rd eye or something.
