3rd Trimester

Diet

I went in for another ultrasound (I'm due in 3 weeks) and the tech dr. told me there was too much fluid because of a diabetes problem - what?!  I've never heard of that.  I passed all my glucose tests.  She told me I needed to go on a strict protien only diet.  I want to wait until my regular dr gets the paperwork because for some reason I trust her opinion more.

The ultrasound doc. told me only eggs, cheese, fish, meat, broccoli, and spinach.  She even told me no milk or yogurt or fruit - wait, I though milk and fruit were good for me? I have a hard enough time as it is finding something to eat.  I've been trying to be a good girl and have been focusing on this diet to an extent all week.  If I eat one more spinach and cheese omelet I'm going to puke, or if I see one more salad - blaugh!

I'm worried my doctor will tell me I really do need to stick to this diet, then what will I do for the next 3 weeks!?  They said the baby is growing just fine though, and I'm measuring correctly - so, uh, maybe I just have a lot of fluid - I remember that with my first DS - the doc induced me and when she broke the water she just kept exclaiming - wow - wow, that's a lot of fluid, wow, it keeps coming.  Ha ha ha

Any high protien meal suggestions so I don't starve?  I already haven't done very good today - I had a bowl of cheerios for lunch.

Re: Diet

  • Can you call your regular Dr and ask? That is so weird since you've never heard anything about it before. Maybe he was mixing you up with someone else??

that does sound super weird ...
  • That's an odd diet suggestion for a pg lady.  I'm a Dietitian and never heard of that before...not to say its not real, just haven't heard of that recommendation before.  No yogurt?  But yogurt is a high protein source.  And did I read correctly, you're not diabetic? Call your Dr. for sure to double check.  BTW, beans are a good source of protein...can't think of any high protein meal suggestions off the top of my head at this very moment (PG-brain attack).  GL tho, hopefully your Dr. will be more helpful.

I would definitely check with your regular OB before continuing this diet.  Sounds pretty weird esp. if you don't have a diabetes dx...and I'm not sure I would take nutrion recommendations from an ultrasound specialist w/out a second opinion.

She even told me no beans because they have too much fiber or something.  She decided all this after the extensive ultrasound so I know it was meant for me, just doesn't make any sense.
