Rolling to her tummy while sleeping

Suddenly my little one has decided she is going to sleep on her tummy, and constantly rolls from back to tummy in her crib while she's asleep.  I'm uneasy about because she's not that great at rolling from tummy to back, so now I keep getting up to check on her, put her back on her back... and ten minutes later she's back on her tummy. Anyway to keep her from rolling on her tummy during her sleep??  I'm too worried about SIDS to let her just sleep on her stomach.

Re: Rolling to her tummy while sleeping

  • DD decided to tummy sleep right around 4 months too.  We rolled her over countless times and finally had to let her do her thing and sleep on her belly.  She would roll right over every time that we put her on her back.  DH was even more worried about it than I was.  I would find him sitting in her room watching her to make sure that she was okay.  DD rolled really well both ways then, and everything I found said that if they were able to do this, it wasn't as big of a deal for them to tummy sleep.

  • Once they can roll you don't have to worry so much about rolling them back...but you can ask your doc for some suggestions if you are really uncomfortable!

  • Hmm, okay.  Yeah, last night I put her back on her back countless times only to find her right back on her tummy.  Maybe she'll return to her back sleeping ways tonight so I can get a decent night's rest. :)
  • Our Pedi said once LO's begin to roll over, they can get themselves out of danger.    If you are really worried about it, try a sleep positioner and see if that will keep your LO on their back.

  • ds does this too, the doc said if he is strong enough to roll, he will be fine...  but continue to put ds on his back when you put him down
  • Our problem is that we have a tummy sleeper who keeps rolling to her back in her sleep and waking up every hour screaming about it! She's fine, BTW, once she chooses to role.?
  • I bet I will be in your shoes before I know it. DS will nap only on his tummy, so I have to sit here and watch him.

  • I have the Angel Care monitor that will alert me if she doesn't breath for 20 seconds.  It really helps me sleep at night and I don't feel like I need to constantly check her...although I usually check once or twice anyway.  I know I will feel less worried when she begins to roll, because I will know if she stops breathing.  I would suggest getting the monitor.
