So from reading a lot of birth stories I am gathering that the majority of women have tearing. If you have a tear and you are BF'ing are you able to take pain medication?

I had Vicodin and Motrin (600mg) prescribed to me after my c-section and was still able to breastfeed safely. The way my doctor put it, if I'm in too much pain to hold my baby, how can I breastfeed anyway?
I had one freakishly huge episiotomy. They told me that I could take Tylenol but I just skipped the drugs and used local pain relievers like Dermaplast, cold Tucks, donut pillow. etc.
But hey, you may not tear or need an episiotomy so think positively! ;-)

I only took Rx painkillers once, and that was a percocet after Kate was born... my only birth that didn't require stitches, go figure! (The cramping afterward was pretty bad b/c I had to have pitocin after she was born...too much bleeding). I had an episiotomy with Erin and tore badly with Connor and stayed medicated with a combo of Tylenol and Ibuprofen and did just fine. But to answer your question, yes, you can take certain painkillers while you're bf'ing.
I had a 3rd degree tear but did fine b'fing on the big motrin and vicadin. ?It doesn't pass into the breast milk I think. ?Something about the size of the molecules...IDK exactly but the LC said it was fine.
I had 8 oxycodone in the beginning and was on tylenol for 6 weeks after. They said it was fine. Although I will admit it was much harder to try and BF when you couldn't sit.
I have 5 stitches and EBF. They offered me stronger pain meds, but I've been taking Tylenol everyday.
If you need the pain meds though, I would take them. We left the hospital early and when we got home my whole body was so sore from pushing that for a few hours I wished that I had taken my OB up on his offer.
I had an emergency c-section that required me to be put under general anethesia. The pain meds weren't the problem for me - it was not knowing that the anethesia would delay my milk coming in and cause DS to be groggy. We had a lot of trouble in the hospital figuring out breastfeeding, but as soon as we got home and my milk came in, we were good to go.
Yes. I started w/ Percocet and Motrin and switched to Vicodin when my Perc ran out.
EDIT: That makes me sound like I have a drug problem . I had a fourth degree tear with two episiotomies and lots of stitches. I stopped taking the Vic as soon as I could and just take Motrin as needed now.

I had a 2nd degree tear and didn't take pain meds.
Dermaplast, tucks and a foam they give you at the hospital were what I used. It really hasn't been that bad.
