Question about CD supply

I've asked this question before but didnt get many responses...

I am about to order the Jilians Drawers trial of diapers. I realize its not enough to diaper full time, but what else do I need to get the most out of the trial? I plan to buy a sample of crunchy clean detergent & I know I need a wet bag or diaper pail, but should I get more prefolds? Inserts? I'm not really sure what to get in terms of extra diapers to make the trial a little more substantial.

Re: Question about CD supply

  • I would try the trial for a few days and you should be able to figure out really quickly what you like and buy those quick.  For little babies, prefolds and covers tend to work the best.  If you want to do full-time on a trial, could you order 2 trial kits?

  • I would suggest you use the trial for what it is - a trial!  It's your opportunity to figure out what you like/dislike and therefore what you need more of.  You might dislike prefolds, maybe you'll dislike AIOs, who knows?.  The other things you could consider getting are cloth wipes (I have a variety, they all seem fine to me), a diaper sprayer for your toilet (I love it!), two diaper pail liners (one for the pail and one for the wash)... I have two smaller diaper bags that I rotate with daycare for soiled diapers at daycare.  I also have a couple of wetbags for my diaper bag (one smaller one, one large one).
  • Thanks for your help!

  • Personally, I think it kind of defeats the purpose of doing the Jillians Drawers trial. The point of the trial is to see what you like and don't like. But if you go ahead and fill out the rest of your newborn stash, then you won't need to buy more. I dunno, personally I don't really see the point of the whole thing anyway, at least for a newborn. Your try it for 21 days and by that time, and add on the time you order and have the stuff delivered, your baby is into the next size!

Also, I've said this before, there is no "right" newborn stash. You'll end up figuring out how to use what you have. First figure out how many days you'd like to do laundry. For me, I just can't get around to doing it more than every 5 days, so I had 60 diapers. I tried a little bit of everything (see my blog for details and a "fashion" show of how everything fits) and really, I liked everything I tried. And I bought everything used. I was able to sell everything for the exact price I paid for it and was only out the cost of shipping, around $20. So to me, that made just as much sense as the Jillians trial. HTH!
