Beach recommendations in US?

My DH is itching for a vacation and we normally go to Mexico for the awesome beaches.  Can anyone recommend a great beach or beachtown in the US?  I don't think we've ever been to a US beach that wasn't in TX!

  • Beach...hands down Siesta Key (just outside of sarasota, fl) most amazing soft white sand you will find in the continental us.

Beach towns...Folly Beach, SC!  Adorable town, amazing little restaurants, surf beach so lots of cool shops...wouldn't trade it for anything!

We're actually headed to Siesta Key in 2 weeks :)

  • I recommend Kiawah Island in South Carolina!  It's very private and have beautiful beaches.

  • Pensacola Beach or similar area (Navarre, Ft. Walton, Destin)

I also really like Naples, FL.

  • I also agree with Siesta Key.  It is beautiful and there is such a great little beach community with great shops and places to eat.
  • I live in Naples, FL and the beaches are very beautiful here but if you're looking for beautiful beaches AND fun stuff to do and see I would go over to South Beach in Miami.  It is just gorgeous over there and there's lots to do.

The beaches over here on the west coast of FL are way more white and have super fine sand but just a heads up - Sanibel Island is not all it's cracked up to be.  I know it's one of those beaches that gets talked about alot but it is very shelly and a little too remote (mangroves and such) for my taste.

The Ritz Carlton in Naples is a great resort that sits on a fantastic beach - check it out!  GL!

  • I was going to mention the FL panhandle (Pensacola, Destin, etc) I live here and the water is beautiful and sand is sugar white.
  • Like PP said:

Naples, FL is great - we have family there and it is one of the few places in FL that I would consider moving to.

Also, I loooove Destin, FL. We used to go there every summer when I was younger just because it wasn't so busy. It has grown a lot since then, but it's still nice and laid back.

The Outer Banks, NC is nice and relaxing also. I would say Hatteras is my pick to really get away. The only downside is that I have heard that it's been a little cooler than usual this season.

    GL!

  • I was just watching a thing about this on the Travel Channel yesterday. ?Although I've never been, South Beach in Florida always gets great reviews and looks amazing. ?However, I wouldn't be a good San Diegan without also recommending Coronado and La Jolla. ?Based on the responses here though, I think Florida wins.

Edit: ?Santa Cruz is cool too, but the water is cold IMO. ?Also, I forgot the obvious one: Hawaii. ??

  • Destin Florida is great, but it is in the northern part so a winter visit would be out of the question!
