we have the deluxe version and i'm really glad i spent the extra money on it. there are tons of bells and whistles on the deluxe vs. the original. JUst a few of the cool features of deluxe include: a digital screen on the parental unit, the rechargeable batteries charge while the unit is on the stand , its its own nite light, a temperature alarm can be set (or turned of but still reads the temp in the room), a pendulum on the screen swings when motion is detected, and you can set it to tune out the white noise in the room (ie it will be silent unless it picks up a certain volumne level so that you arent listening to the fan all nite). We did have false alarms the first day, but we just turned up the sensativity level, since them we have had it go off twice legitametly, the alarm went off and woke DS up just enough to remind him to breath.

You've had it go off twice legitimately?? Well how could I not get it now?? haha.
One more question, did anyone get a masonite board, or does it work ok without?
Thank you everyone.

I have the simple version as I got it as a gift. It goes off sometimes due to him scooting too far from it but I absolutely love it! I would rather him scoot and have it go off rather than not have it and wake up and .... ya know...
We have the original and it gives us a lot of peace of mind. We got it and a video monitor, which I know is probably overkill but one of my good friends lost her little boy to SIDS last year right after I found out I was pregnant and I am now totally paranoid of SIDS. We really do love the angelcare monitor and would use it by itself if we didn't have the first had experience of SIDS.
our little guy has apnea, though the pedi thinks he is fine and i'm overreacting...though i've noticed it when he is napping in my arms not b/c the monitor went off (in the process of finding a new pedi as well), so yes this gives me LOTS of peace of mind.
Our crib has a pressed board base, so we didnt need anything extra underneath. It currently works so well that when we first brought him home, to give him some extra comfort, we put the foam changing pad on top of the mattress, and it could still sense his breathing!
LOVE our AngelCare monitor. ?We have the basic version that the first person who replied showed. ?DS has slept on his tummy from 6 weeks, so it gives me lots of peace of mind. ?We don't use a masonite board and it works just fine - we know this because we've forgotten to turn it off when taking DS out of the crib and it went off, so we know it works when it doesn't sense his movement.

Re: Angelcare Monitor
I have it and love it. I would definitely recommend it. We have this one:
my angel babies: 6/10 (chem. pg), 9/10 @ 10 weeks
We have the same one!
I love it! It gives peace of mind when DS started to sleep on his side and learned to roll on his tummy.

We didn't have to get a masonite board, ours worked great without it.
